SOUNDabout Lossless is a lossless audio codec developed specifically for Bluetooth technology by Open Interface North America (OINA). It was developed to improve the overall quality of streaming files that are already compressed using a lossy compression like MP3. Further compression can distort the audio, making it sound much worse than it really should. It was developed with emphasis on keeping power consumption low for Bluetooth devices and requires 20 Million Instructions Per Second (MIPS).
