The Wireless Gigabit Alliance - or WiGig Alliance - is a trade organization that pushes technological solutions for high-speed wireless connectivity between computing, communications and entertainment devices. The group was formed by leaders in the consumer electronics and other tech industries, with members including AMD, Broadcom, CISCO, Dell, Intel, Marvel, MediaTek, Microsoft, NEC, NOKIA, Nvidia, Panasonic, Qualcomm, Samsung, Toshiba and Wilocity - and a whole host of other contributors including Texas Instruments, NXP, Harman and more.
The organization has developed and maintains a unified specification that will allow electronic devices to communicate at speeds of multi-gigabits per second. In contrast, the 802.11n wireless standard provides for up to 600 Mbit/s at very best.
The Video Electronics Standards Association (VESA) has partnered with the WiGig Alliance to define the next generation standard wireless display technology. The pair will co-operate to develop multi-gigabit wireless DisplayPort capabilities.
