Xbox 360 will retail for about $300
During an interview with TheStreet.com, Corporate Vice President J Allard, who heads Microsoft's video-game efforts, said that the Xbox 360 console will retail for around the same price that the first Xbox console did, about $300. This is an extract from the full interview...

Q: How much is the Xbox 360 going to cost?

Not sure. It's probably about two months away before we make the decision on that.

Q: The last Xbox went out at about $300 initially. Will the 360 be priced higher, lower?

It's going to be in the neighbourhood.

There has been much speculation recently as to the price of the next generation consoles. At least now we have an indication of the possible price of the Xbox 360.

Not a bad price, I hope the PS3 follows suit and doesnt jack the price up cause that is what I am getting, regardless of the price.

i hope so too, because $300 compared to $400+ isn't good competition.

hell yea that means that sony would be forced to drop their price to something around that range. Ps3 here i come.

maybe this news will have Sony singing a different tune.

PS3 at the same price? There's so much more "under the hood" for PS3, though. I would be shocked (SHOCKED, I say!) if PS3 were around $300. I would, ofcourse, be forced to buy PS3 instead...

This is probably what will happen:

Since they said "about the same price" that probably means +$50 so about 350 actually. Then Sony, having invested more money into their product and successfully convinced most people their system is better (I am convinced) will charge a few bucks more. This being most likely 380 for the PS3 sounds about right, and its a damn good deal for what you are getting.

Just try making a PC that strong.... about 1.5 - 2.5k depending on exact specs. Thats WAYYY more.

"Just try making a PC that strong". Only one problem with that statement. PS3 doesn't play PC games.

Wow 300 is not bad at all. Also backing these games up for personal use does not look all that hard sense they are going to be just dvd's like normal systems. They are not going with blue ray or hd dvd which is interesting. Seems even Microsoft is afraid of the way that battle is going to go, allthough blue ray seems to have an edge now.

who really cares about hardware really....the games will be about exactly the same. Xbox's hard drive space will come in handy though.....plus their exclusive games such as Halo and Perfect Dark is why I'm going to buy xbox.

It's really stupid to fight over specs.....look at the Shitstation 2.....inferior specs but it still dominated for some reason or another.......More games? not the ones I wanted.....

Did you guys think the price comparison was the same as the gamecube versus the others? It's always been cheaper, yet people were willing to pay more for the xbox/ps2.

(I waited 'til the price dropped and I got a good discount before I bought an xbox. Gamecube came first for me. :) )

i bought the first xbox the day it came out. i had to buy a bundle pack. 3 games and an xtra controller. only kept halo
    im not doing that again

Costco or Sam's club will have them soon enough after they come out. I'll be in no hurry to drop $300+ dollars on Xbox 360. I'll wait. I'd don't have to be the first to have it on my block.

main reason i wont be buying an xbox 360: microfot are once again trying to get into the center of our lives using their unreliable and poorly executed ideas.
i'm in no hurry to throw $300 at a piece of crap, expecially an xbox 1.5.
i'll go for teh ACTUAL next gen system thanks.
I always kinda disliked nintendo, but i'd prefer the revolution over this console.
and before u guys start yelling, no, i'm not a sony fan boy, i jsut go with the better systems.

That not really that much money its only 100$ more then the first xbox, alot of ppl are gonna buy this one.

It doesn't seem like they can offer it for such a low price. When you look at the specs of the Hardware, you can barely touch a comparable computer for less than $450 - $500. I know MS usually will sell the hardware at a loss to get them into the home.

Hopfully it is only $300. I know lots of folks who will pick it up for that.

It all comes down to loyalty. I have been playing the playstations from day one and will continue to do so with the PS3. Price is not an issue if you get a product that will bring many years of fun and satisfaction. I would feel the same about the X-box 360 if I would have bought the first one and loved it. Umm....maybe I'll get both!

MS is not sony, their is only 1 xbox unlike PS2(1st one small on and PSX).
And PS3 will not have a Hard drive but u can buy it. the Cell are made for Lap Tops which need a HD. what does that mean easy to have the full power of the cell it will need a HD. Since the HD will not come with the PS3 it will most likely be only for the memory for the game. sony most likely will not make a HD for the cell like they were planing. sony will save money on not makeing a cell HD, and a HD. i think by like $100 but will not effect PS3 price that much. Sony could be in worse shape then i thought.

All i have to say is the newer systems can't live up to the old ones. They tried to recreate Goldeneye or the original Marios and failed. Perfect Dark was the only good combat game after Goldeneye. Nothing can live up to them. In fact the smartest thing to do would be to rerelease older games for the newer systems with ABSOLUTELY nothing changed except improved graphics. All the newer systems are too expensive and so are their games.

if you people are really worried about the price why don't you wait for 3-4 years till the price drops to $100 also I kinda like both ( I never say a game system is bad unless it's a game boy or something)

The $300 price is correct and it is going to launch in october not november as expected because i have a very good friend at my local game store and the microsoft rep told them that the 360 will launch in october.

i thought that the ps3 was supposed to be more around 600$ after sony put so much money creating the cell processor...hmmmm..... o wel i'm still getting the xbox 360 hands down because i found that my ps2 sucked compared to the xbox so...that's my opinion.

    26.6.2005 01:45 #31

  • xboxfool

r the ps3's really supposed to be $600 that's too expensive for me
