Clouseau to inspect illegally shared P2P files

Clouseau to inspect illegally shared P2P files
SafeMedia Corp., a company dedicated to helping safeguard consumers' networks from "every risks associated with illegal file sharing of copyrighted files," has invented 'Clouseau', which it claims is the first system of its kind designed solely to eradicate P2P piracy.

Clouseau is a network appliance deployed on subnets that will look to stamp out all unauthorized P2P activity.

"Billions of dollars and thousands of jobs are lost to P2P piracy. Current technology is clearly ineffective at stopping it," claimed Safwat Fahmy, chief exec and founder of SafeMedia.

"Clouseau is the best-of-breed internet piracy prevention solution designed from the ground up specifically to stop all P2P internet piracy no matter where it originates worldwide," Fahmy continued. "It is safe and invisible, causes little or no latency in the network, self-healing and user-friendly, and completely shields user anonymity."

The device, claim SafeMedia, uses fingerprinting and DNA markers which monitor incoming and outgoing packets so that illegal P2P is snuffed out while allowing legal P2P to pass through to its destination without any noticeable delay.

"We have made Clouseau dynamically proactive, safe and hardened. Pirates are smart and innovative, and so is Clouseau," added Fahmy. "Our technology is dynamic, sees through all multi-layered encryptions, adaptively analyses network patterns and constantly updates itself. Packet examinations are non-invasive and infallible. There are no false positives."

What a load this is. It sounds too good to be true...like its engine is powered by fairy dust or "god".

"Billions of dollars and thousands of jobs are lost to P2P piracy. This is the most ridiculous lie I've heard in a long time. How can they consider the money lost if they weren't going to get it to begin with? I download everything for the simple fact that I'm poor and I won't pay $30 for a dvd and if it's part of a series like anime $30 a dvd each for a set of 9-10 to complete the series. Rent, food and living expenses take priority over buying entertainment and I would never buy it to begin with ever. Downloading stuff is the only way people that are poor actually manage to see this stuff, unless it's recorded from tv with a vcr or dvd recorder. Lost revenue my ass when people never were going to buy it to begin with. P2p or record it from tv or NEVER see it is the options of some people. I won't even start on the lost jobs statement rofl I think Britney and other musicians and actors/actresses have enough money.

I COMPLETELY agree with Veigo's statement. After reading the main article it makes me wounder where they intended to have it installed. Do they expect us to pay for it and have us put it on our computers? or is it some idea where schools or companys want to stop p2p downloading. or someing entirely diffrently like a seek and destroy program Coughviruscough.... It really makes you wounder how long it will take for their bubble to burst and realize that some apparently "perfect" program designed to stop piracy that so that "Billions of dollars and thousands of jobs" can be saved, and finally realize that some mythically powerful antipiracy program is no match for anyone that knows anything about computers.

You must remember that all of these businesses thrive on growth for their figures. Analysts predict (keyword: predict) the growth, of let's say, Blu-ray sales over the next 5 years (coincidentally just posted here.) Let's say, Blu-ray grows at an alarming 100% growth rate year-to-year. In 3 years, the price of Blu-ray discs and players are equivalent to DVD. However, so is BD-R media and burners, and the analysts numbers go in the toilet "because of piracy". The truth is, the price will most likely not bottom out enough to carry this growth through the lifespan of the predicated analysis and thus, piracy will be blamed, instead of just admitting that the growth and high cost for barriers of entry for said format (CD's, DVD's, Video Games, Software) are high. If the industry didn't pump up the dollar price on everything they did, they wouldn't have to worry about being so greedy. They are still making hand over fist, but in the end, it will never be enough. Their greed tells them that if it weren't for piracy, they would have another consumer spending a buck on their goods. It's all bull. It's no different than 15-20 years ago. Exactly what veigo said. People could either watch or listen to a broadcast on TV or radio, or record it to a cassette for playback continuously or at a later time... or to share it with friends. Let's assume 10 movies came out in theaters years ago and 2 of them were blockbusters. Today, they come out faster and there's more of them, say 30 releases by a studio in a year. That means 20 years ago, we had 8 out of 10 stinkers, and today we have 24 out of 30 stinkers, all the while still paying a premium to watch or listen to something that may not be worth the price. The world has shrunk and technology has allowed for the greedy corporations to release more of their crap at a faster rate. It has also given us new avenues to sample this said media and at a safer cost: in most cases free. If I want something badly enough, I'll buy it. If I support the artist, company, actor, cause behind it, I'll buy it. If I'm skeptical, I want to check it out first, because I can't afford to watch all "30" movies to find out that only 6 of them were worth my hard-earned money.

Incorrect the industry is not making a double profit because the crap it produces.
BTW ISP's and the internet has grown because of P2P to censor it would destroy the internet.

and any ISP to use this "device" to "protect" its users from the evils of a uncensored net, will lose said users then thos losses of jobs you talked about will began to happen because no one wants a censored internet.

I love it the rich copyrighting everything and goverments banning the rest....

Do they have a big list of what is legal?

"specifically to stop all P2P internet piracy no matter where it originates worldwide"

So they understand the laws of all nation's on earth and whether stopping P2P activity on someone's computer is against the law?

What happens if Clouseau decides to become the pirate, lol?
Who's going to keep an eye on such a smart program that constantly updates itself?

I can remember working two full-time 40 hour/week jobs M-F and worked 12-16 hours/day S-S "for a guy" when I was married. I did buy a few cds now and then, mostly I paid off my (then) wife's prior debt and delinquent student loans, seemed like we always were poor. Wish I'd found her "Save for when you get divorced so you can smile and go buy a new car by writing a check for it" fund, I might have bought a couple more. Now I've decided to work less than 64-70 hours a week which means no cds, no renting dvds, no movies, precious few dates/eating out. Don't get new music or movies but if I did it would be p2p and it wouldn't be me getting something I'd otherwise have to pay for, it would be getting something I would otherwise do without. But screw it, who cares about that stuff any more, I listen to internet radio now again and pick up a few channels with my ota antenna.

Where do they expect this type of program to be utilized? Heh, about any college or business intranet connected to the internet and a lot of isps. They'll just tell them that about 35% - actually I bet its really higher, lol - of their total bandwidth is used for illegal p2p and their appy would end that, saving them money and complaints about logjams & slow speeds. Also play on their fears - Do you know how many virii and keyloggers etc. that kind of stuff harbors, do you really want it on your company's computers or would you like there to be at least a chance that you can keep your important data private? What are people going to do, cancel their precious broadband because they can't p2p any more? Dial-up? <Shudders> I don't have time to sit around on the patio and use the internet much, but I've gone to lengths to make sure I've got enough speed that when I do open the gates I don't have to go take a nap while waiting for the bucket to fill. Got a wireless setup our local mad scientist rigged me up with an old mini satellite dish and I share wirelessly with about 13 other ranches. He built us a relay system that sucks bandwidth from two broadband accounts in our nearest town about 15 miles away in one direction and one in the next town past it. Weren't none of us ever bothered with the internet before that but were going to keep it, its more reliable than the phones around here and there aren't any cell towers for miles.

I bet tactics like that'll work too!

Distributed to the general public as coughviruscough? If you classify all uninvited, unwanted, probably malicious in one form or another software as virii, huh. You have to figure that most computers have some form of it already and sure they'll try it. Why not, what have they got to lose, make it up as an anon piece of code that their appy just happens to be able to detect as a "marker" for probably illegal p2p activity. No we would never even write such code let alone release a flood of it all over the place but our team of experts has determined that the only way it can get onto a person's computer is if they've been illegally sharing files and so we just use it as an indicator.

Whatcha gonna' do, sue them for stopping you from comitting a crime? Note I'm withholding comment on what I think of said crime in any given situation, just asking the question.

Do I think they'll try stuff like all of that? Sure! Does it give me a warm fuzzy feeling knowing that still more corporate entities are going to be attempting to control, interfere, spy, tattle, and if that doesn't work, plant things on my systems? WTF? First, I totally disagree with invasions of my privacy and my home on principle. Second, I loathe and disgust any person or entity that doesn't have the balls to come and attack me in person where I've got a better than even chance of dusting him/her/it and person and putting their worthless corpses with all of the rest of the trash in one of the anonymous canyons on my ranch. Some of the caves around here are easily deep enough to hide just about anything and several of the abandoned mines have vertical tunnels ranging in the hundreds of feet. They want to come out and preach their ideas on how I should think in person I'll be glad to listen to them. And then they simply went on their way and I don't know where...

I never thought simple greed was a good reason for people to act the way they do, but it seems to work remarkably well for many.

    Hello all the world:
Is the first time i left a comment here in afterdawn.
    My experience:Quote:

An ISP puts a software protection for P2P program(Emule)on it; people cannot share and download nothing with this program.

We didn't think twice, we left the provider.

The provider in two months, closes the protection software, because in two months had lost about 500.000€ of defections of people that gone of it.

What's the ISP that wants to spend a lot of money for a protection software like "Closeau" and lost another lot of money seiing his customers migrate to another ISP's?

Here in my country, we don't think that ISP's wants to loose another money with this bullshits...

You are not getting 'it'. If sales do not continue to rise every year because the recording Cos are putting out far more junk than they used to it can't be their own fault. Someone must be to blame. They not investing in the industry by promoting real talent but instead sign what ever will sign up cheaply it MUST be somebody else’s fault. It can't be that they are incompetent morons. It must be because bad guys as I remember it, the reason they need to gouge the public is because they invest SO heavily in the industry. It they did probably there would be better music and better sales.

These bums are used to the free gourmet lunch. They figured the free ride would go on for ever, or at least that is what they told the investors. Now that the free lunch is not gourmet anymore they cry foul. I wonder who the oil & car companies will blame when we run out of oil. The oil companies are used to pumping oil out of the ground and selling it for a huge profit. Both the oil and car companies have fought any conservation with every thing they had but when the sh@t hits the fan they will be the first that cries foul.

I have to hand it to SafeMedia Corp, they have found an excellent 'mark'. The best 'marks' are rich, greedy and stupid. SafeMedia Corp. has a product that does amazing things and can not be easily verified in real life. Maybe the media Mafia will not even have to foot the bill for this. Maybe they can cooers other to pay for that technology. As I remember there was another product that was to put an end to all the piracy on the internet about a year ago. I wonder what happened to that.

    sees through all multi-layered encryptions,

so then there software must contain a haching or a Decrypter,so this then would make the software llegal.

    18.3.2007 19:00 #17

  • Mez

lonernz, it is not illegal to decrypt anything that is not classified. It is illegal to copy copywrited material. The joke is how can software identify a snippet of a file and deturmine that it is copywrited and to make the claim laughable they can decrypt the packets on the fly. Not that it is impossible to decrypt a packet but it is impossible to decrypt trillions of packets per second. P2P accounts for 50% of the US bandwith and 80% of the Asian bandwidth. That amount of computing would require its own powerplant!

    19.3.2007 02:25 #18

Yes I say ban P&P , best way to help put unemployment up as , user donnot need good bandwith, new hardware , and we can all sit at home wait for it to come on television in 2 years time

It is perhaps not as bleak as I mentioned. Not every woman lives for the dollar (or for my dollar). There are many things one can do without spending a lot of $$$. And we do go out once in a while. Just not every night.

Going out all the time with many different women is a luxury. But having a woman - that's simple survival, bro!
