Black Xbox 360 update

Black Xbox 360 update
In a small update to a recent article, many news outlets are reporting that Microsoft does indeed plan to release the black Xbox 360 Elite console which will include an HDMI connector, IPTV capabilities, and a 120GB hard drive for a decent $479 USD price tag.

The new 360 would have an updated motherboard as well which would incorporate the new 65 nanometer technologies. By updating the motherboard, Microsoft can cut down on manufacturing costs. This leads to speculation of a price cut for the holidays which would put extreme pressure on the 360's console rivals Wii and PlayStation 3.

Analysts believe that even if there is no price cut, the addition of IPTV will give the 360 an edge over its competition which lacks the technology.

Other then this is a whole new 'Box its too bad M$ doesn't have any sort of 'Upgrade' path available. Somewhere like your local GameStop might though. *Crosses Fingers*

I am assuming this comes with the same stuff as the "XBox "Pro" but with the extra new goodies. If that is the case then $480 isn't a bad price tag at all. Compared to the $400 the "Pro" version is now.

Plus, from what I know, HDMI means true HDTV (at 1080p). In my opinion just the 120GB is worth the extra $80 but to add HDMI is just a bonus. I don't remember what IPTV is, probably some Internet TV made to give M$ more money but who cares? :p

why not put HD DVD drive as standard feature instead of OPTIONAL,,this would be great, if you want upgrade to DH dvd drive now you must pay extra for it..it work out same price with PS3 but PS3 come with Blue Ray dvd drive as standard..it's looking like the games has been start between major games manufactures WII, XBOX and lastest PS3,,i have long fan of XBOX but now i just wondering switch to PS3, i have been waiting for XBOX come with HD DVD drive that i save my time on upgrade it,now look like it's never happen, if they still plan HD DVD drive as OPTIONAL i believe PS3 will overtake them,,with BLUE RAY dvd Player alone was cost $1499 AUD,i thinks in US could be more cheaper than AUS..any suggestion you guys keep waiting for next generation of XBOX or switch to PS3....cheersss

This is GREAT news for me since i already have a ps3 and always wanted an Xbox with better features. Now i can get a Black Xbox and not have to worry about overheating issues :P.

Btw i luv my ps3 and i probably luv my future Black Xbox:P. Suxs for people with the original xbox since it might not be able to operate future games at a decent fps without overheating.

This isn t gonna be true IPTV. If the internet speed is not high enough, there's no way people will watch LIVE TV on an XBOX. The service exists in France for a while now and it s choppy as hell at low speed. THe only way to get XBOX working at low speed is to use it as digital recorder then watch the show with a delay. This isn't real TV. More like something in the middle of PPV and Tivo... At high speed, i d tend to agree, Live TV is possible but how many towns around the US got very high speed DSL ? ... 'cause we are talking about phone companies. not cable companies...Also i wonder what the price tag on this service going to be i guess just another way for M$ to keep draining there customer into that money pit they have.Never mind i already have cable why anyone going to pay for two cable bills.

Yeah the new console does tick me off a bit, but MS is doing this to try to curb all of the security flaws in the "white" boxes. Already have mine modded, so who cares about this? Go buy a black case and call it a day.

This is why i was not a Xbox fan. I only got mines to hold me over until the PS3 came out. I got them both and i only play my 360 to play with friends online other then that thats all its used for. This is topical M$ all they know how to do is screw the user. I think that will continue because nobody will do nothing about it.

HDVD will not be in the 360 until units sale for 200 so I don't see MS putting a HDVD drive into the 360 for 2 years there are 2 main reasons for this PRICE being first and for most to put it in would add 200 to the drive then they would take a 200-400 loss MS,the other main reason is MS built this console around DVD without Hdvd games a price hike and more money loss on each console sold MS dosent have much of a need to do it right now in 2-4 years they might roll out the Xbox 2 who knows in the long run the format war might still be going in 011.

As fickle as the 360 hardware is MS's upgrade path is as silly from the start they should let you change the HDD,and since they have HDVD and the drive units are almost the same in size they should have made the units interchangeable.

MS upgrade plan is sloppy yet they can stabilize income by relseing new models every 2 years at near launch price's

Sony forces you to buy it all at once and gives you meager upgrade options after that.

this is almost as bad as my sony putting a 2x Blu-ray 8mbps drive into the ps3 especially when the equipped 8xdvd has a faster data extract rate. ^-^

65nm isn't comming until fall. These units wil still have the 90nm process. When the limited edition elits are gone the premium units will get all the goods that the elit package has (except the black shell.) The price of the new premiums will still be $400. I'd rather wait till fall, save $80, and get the same fetures that the elite has just with a white 360.
