PSP will get a 'long overdue' dedicated PlayStation Store
At the Gamers Day event this week, Sony America president Jack Tretton said that a protable version of the PlayStation Store would be coming to PSPs soon.

"I think the advent of a long awaited and quite frankly long overdue ability to deliver a downloadable service for the PSP will help us out a great deal," he said. "Hopefully we'll have it out there by the fall."

Basically, PSP users will now be able to browse, download and buy games and content right from thier PSP when connected to Wi-Fi.

This is interesting but they really need to upgrade the memory to about ten gigs before a user can take advantage of the online feature.

Perhaps you're thinking that users with hacked PSPs won't be able to get onto the PS Store, but why would a hacked PSP user download ports of PS1 games etc when they can put it on their PSP for free? (ie make ISOs themselves or download them.)

And frankly, who with a PSP would care that much if they couldn't play online with their PSP games. They generally aren't that amazing anyways.

In response to the article... Good. Maybe people will actually start buying downloadable PSP games. The majority of PSP owners probably don't have a hacked PSP or a PS3.

This had damn well better be good. PSone games, movies, demos and extra ingame content better be available. Maybe music.

You do know there are reasons to have a hacked psp right besides to play downloaded iso's correct?

Sure, but I'm just thinking of the content that the PS Store will be able to give to PSP owners that would otherwise only be obtainable through modding your console or having a PSP, (ie downloadable PS1 games.)

Thinking pretty narrowly, and moreso, not looking at the bigger picture. No sh!t would someone with a modded psp not buy ps1 games from Sony when they can do it themselves, that is obvious to anybody.....just like M$, Sony could possibly incorporate a logger, and have a field day on those they assume are committing piracy of whatever type. Just by logging on to the store, Sony could somehow collect info similiar to M$. Pure speculative, just throwing it out there. I also highly doubt this will happen, but again just a random what-if on my part.

Stupid Lazy kinda harsh dont you think maybe most people can afford to buy games for there console also many peolpe rent games too.so just because somebody choose not to crack open there system and void the warrenty dont make them stupid or lazy.

To mod a PSP you don't even have to void the warranty in order to mod it to do whatever you'd like it to do. It's just somewhat time consuming and requires a (somewhat minimal) knowledge of computers and the patience to read/find how to get the job done. I suggest modding you PSP not simply to put illegal PSP ISO games on there but to but emulators ie snes or gameboy on there. <<Then you have all your old consoles on a nifty little portable game player.

And svtstang, I can understand what you a thinking now, and I agree with you that while possible, the idea of Sony going after pirates seems a bit far fetched... But then again, anything goes in the "war on piracy" I suppose.

Cmon, you are either stupid or lazy if you dont take full advantage of a psp, like Moomoo said there is no voiding of warranty involved, no soldering....just being able to read and follow directions. Damn Sony will replace the damn thing if you mess up, simply by telling them the psp bricked while updating firmware (granted the psp is under warranty). If you have a non-downgradable firmware it is understandable. So please do read before commenting, I am speaking purely about a psp....not an xbox or playstation.

And yeah Moomoo, you are right. I just have all these crazy conspiracy theories after M$ finally cut the cord on Live :/
