Sony says PlayStation 3 production issues are thing of the past

Sony says PlayStation 3 production issues are thing of the past
Today, Sony gave word that the PlayStation 3 was finally in full production, now that blue-violet laser diode shortages were out of the way.

In April, the company announced that they had stepped up production of the diodes to 1.7 million units per month, as the diode is critical to the Blu ray drive. Shortages of the diodes are largely cited for the delayed European launch of the console.

“Production problems have now ceased, we're in full production as far as PlayStation 3 is concerned and there's a steady chain of supply in North America, Japan and Europe,”
a Sony Computer Entertainment Inc. spokesperson said.

The spokesperson also added that with the production issues a thing of the past, the company is confident the PS3 can match the success of the PS2, which has sold over 115 million units worldwide since its launch.

“We're aiming towards a much broader lifestyle for home entertainment enthusiasts, that's one of the reasons the PlayStation 2 went on to sell over 115 million units worldwide,”
said the spokesperson. “Ultimately it will come down to content ... What it offers for its price is exceptional value for money – a quarter of the cost of a PC of similar capability and about the same as a commercial Blu-ray player.”

sony you are a joke. and i dont believe they sold 115 million of those things. there isn't even 100 games for it that u can't get on another system. blahhhhh @ them

Store Manager dusting off merchandise, yes now that production issues are a thing of the past......still doesn't explain the dusty console... oh thats right too much money, But then the fanboy yells out from the back "But the Games and the ~ stutter ~ stutter ~ Graphics.....Oh and the precious Blu-ray player"

Same old Same old. Sony is lucky Xbox was had the little problems it has had, but that doesn't change the fact that Sony has brought out a useless system with nothing more then a partially upgraded PS2 for graphics and games which are available on any other system.

115 million sales on PS2, how many were repeat buyers from dead consoles.

But none of that matters because Production issues are a thing of the past!

its only value for the half the moeny they want and BTW theres a glut of PS3s already,so halve the price already......

really the 360 is a better deal even with the heatfailness of it,the PS3 is nice but not worth more than 480.

You are an idiotic fanboy, if you could actually read you would know that 115 million playstation 2's were sold, not playstation 3's. The computer comment, there is no computer out there for commercial use with the processing power of cell, now go cry to mommy to buy you your precious HD-DVD add on for your 360.

it depends on what hype they are using to hype the cell with, plus you have the whole OS support thing,BTW the high end gaming rigs can run circles around the PS3 mainly because they are not limited by the bottle necks the PS3 has.

One more thing to get you fuming about the 360 is roughly the PS3's equal the 3 core+ the bottle necks make it about the same, the PS3 dose seem to have more efficient codeing to harness its power better but it only comes up to doing physics better, I will give you the PS3 supports Hdef a bit more throughly but all in all the PS3 is a beast in price and coding making the WII and 360 more valuable to devs and pubs.

I have played both, and I don't favor either(I play fps a lot wich are god awful on consoles), I am a Wii fan myself(for the fun games, I do most of my gaming on PC), and you are right, the PS3 is bottlenecked, if you were running say, a PC on a C2D X6800 extreme, with 2 gigs of crucial ballistix or OCZ rally RAM, with something like a 8600GT, it would most likely outperform both systems because it would be well matched, no bottlneck.

They always go on about the ps2. Yes it was an amazing console in its time. But not any more!!!!!!

Haha i just find it funny the ps3 sold so little no one realised about the diode shortage.

I was a big fan of PS2, and I wold like to be a big fan of PS3.
Besides the fact that it has taken so looong to release, the PS3 is still unreachable for myself, due to the whopping PRICE!
In Australia, PS3 has been available since before XMAS last year & it is still retailing at $999.00 for just the console and one controller!!

Im glad the SONY bigwigs are so happy with PS3, but how about lowering the price so that some of us low income earners can enjoy as well!

I'll get a PS3 sooner or later. A Wii too. I'm sorry but I hate Xbox. I play it all the time at my friends house, like 2 hours a day, and it gets boring after playing the same genre of game over and over again. Always a shooter. And then like 75% of the online community is completely immature. Very racist too.

What's the point of paying to play with others if they're all going to act like retards?

its not quite that bad,my main trouble with the 360 is price V cost 400$ for a system with a low variety of games + no cheat device + 50 a year for net add limited console controls (if they gave you button mapping and a ton of options I would die for the system but the games are made for console noobs who don't see the missed nuances)

the WII is great gettign one ASAP LOL

PS3.....I will only spend at the most 400 on it....and its not even worth that right now.

does this even matter? i dont think ps3s were flying off the shelves to begin with, right? and the new computer im going to build has semi decent parts, and it still costs half of this. probably more

I prefer to pay good money for a decent and sturdy console with everything in the box from the get-go (PS3), than a lower price for a badly engineered console lacking some key components you need to buy separately (Xbox360) ... but that's just me

the 360 is a mess but at the same time a more coherent game machine pick on it all you want (sht talking kids on live+high fail rate+ about 80 more than its really worth at least the premium is) the WII is the best of the lot IMO however its in a dulldrum untill the 2nd wave of games can hit my only distaste for the system is lack of control over the controls,by forcing you to play a game they way they half witttedly put together and give you no remap options in order to run older games with the dual motion setup the WII is made incomplete.

All the systems have something wrong with them for me the WII has the least but tis the most annoying since I am a game control nazi, the 360 has that problem 2 would it kill them to support KB&mouse, the PS3 has the most issues price, games ,development there arrogance might be their undoing by the end of next year we'll know i the system can gain another leg to stand on or not.

Winge winge f*%$#@ng winge. Thats all you after dawners do. If you can't afford the ps3 go and buy a 360. Or if you's are capable of research and Comparison why don't you's research what the playstation has to offer, Check the proffit margins or how the investors are losing cause they're already selling it for less than it's worth. So don't expect a price drop for a while. If there is one it will be small.

How about all the negative people do some research.

Ps. it says the shortages were for europe release!

Well then hello MR woolie I like getting humped by the corporate horde (I jest I jest)

So the PS3 is prefect and could have not been handled better? same goes to the 360? they have more than your avrage faults to them,at least the WII is a simple recycled gen system but come on whining is fun :P

    Sorry, can't resist... gotta post...

You guys/gals own a PS3? Graphic is slightly improved version of PS2? Are you shitting me? No toys should cost $600? Are you for real?

Granted that PS3 got shitty game lineup right now, so if you're looking for games, the PS3 is not for you. If you don't have a HD TV, then you should also wait... If $500 is too much for you, then wait till it's cheaper. So, problems solved! Where the hates coming from?

I love my PS3 and peace!

What i'm trying to say is... people don't really see what a PS3 can do. No, fold@home is not what i'm trying to tell you, but it's cool (whoever make fun of curing cancer should die from cancer, i'm serious).

Obviously, besides games, you got BD! Okay, maybe you're not into that, respect that...

DVD Upscaler! You gotta admit, that's a cool bonus....

Upscaling of PS1/PS2 games, not all that bad if you ask me.

It's a media machine, okay, so does the X360... However, with the PS3, i can play ACHD files directly off the mem card or HDD.

Remote play! Access your PS3 anywhere using your PSP, pretty cool huh?

anyhow, i'm gonna go hug a tree now :)

Your right, whining is fun. It keeps the world turning and pushes standards higher.
My biggest point may be what "Gnawnivek" is getting too.
There is much more to the ps3 than just a games console. That is they're biggest sell point.

    Nothing is perfect.
"Nothing is sure in life But death and taxes".!
    Two other things are certain,
Hardware will be outdated/upgraded after you buy it and the software you get with it isn't good enough.

May your console of choice live long and prosper....................

I own an Xbox 360 core, had it since release, no problems at all, i have wireless controller, Hard drive, a 4Gamers intercooler (not shity nyko) n plenty of games, 1 problem with it IM BORED OF IT, big style, so if i cud afford a PS3 i wud deffo buy 1, being 16 looking for a job i cant afford 1, luckily my dad sed he will buy me 1 if i get a decent job, which saves me money and motivates me to get a job. lol.

but the price still needs to be lowered, in the U.K, its £424.99 for the console a free sixaxis controller (2 alltogether) and 2 free games, good bundle but still expensive.

SONY, LOWER THE PRICE IN THE U.K, NOT JUST IN THE U.S
