AMD preparing DisplayPort equipped video cards

AMD preparing DisplayPort equipped video cards
In April, DisplayPort became the new approved standard for PC displays but so far there has been little attention placed on the standard.

Recently however, several prominent manufacturers have announced they will be bringing DisplayPort monitors to the market in the next year including Dell and Samsung.

However, to be able to enjoy a DisplayPort monitor, you will also need a video card equipped with DisplayPort. AMD , the processor and video card maker, has announced that they will be equipping the R700 FireGL line of video cards with DisplayPort video outputs. The cards will be readily available in 2008, says the company.

The video cards should be out almost simultaneously with Samsung's announced 30 inch DisplayPort monitor as well as with Dell's yet unannounced displays.

More updates as they become available.

Go AMD! Although I wish they would have bought nVidia instead of ATi. I was saddened when they had a massive loss due to the C2D series. I feared they would go under real soon but it looks like they may be starting to develop some sort of come back.

Yes, I will agree that right now the C2D is the way to go but, if you remember the cook-an-egg-on-your-processor days of the Prescott Core P4s, I believe that AMD will be able to become competitive once again. I sure hope they do as that would mean even greater prices for us, the consumers.

    Peace

AMD is the thorn in Intel's side that will never go away. They may be outmatched in the processor arena for now, but I do not think they are in danger of going under. AMD notorious for coming back and surprising many people. If I had a nickle for everytime I heard people saying that AMD is gonna go out of business I would be a rich man. I think their new "barcelona" X2 and X4 processors will be on a more level playing field with C2D and tryst me when I say they have something that will again kick the pants out of Intel just like the Athlon 64 did for years before the C2D.

I love AMD and i am pleased to see they are making the upgrade. We will just have to wait and see how good the graphics truly are.
