P2P giant Suprnova returns

P2P giant Suprnova returns
With lawsuits flying around from every angle, the owner of the once famed Suprnova.org, sloncek was forced to deliver a huge blow to the BitTorrent P2P scene by shutting down the website. Once viewed as a one stop shop for all your P2P needs, Suprnova's loss to the scene made a significant impact on file-sharing everywhere.

Such is the way of the Internet, many other sites that were similar in construction sprang up and many others gained valuable regular visitors, but few were able to rise to the notoriety that was held by Suprnova. A short time ago, rumors had flown around the Internet of those P2P rebels ThePirateBay acquiring the rights to Suprnova. Today, those rumors and early leaks have been confirmed. Suprnova.org has opened to the public in the form of an open public beta.

The new owners request that its visitors keep in mind that they are still in the growing stage and there just may be some issues from the initial startup, but they offer a rather interesting tongue-in-cheek reply to those who forced the site down in the first place.

"This is how it works. Whatever you sink, we build back up. Whomever you sue, ten new pirates are recruited. Wherever you go, we are already ahead of you. You are the past and the forgotten, we are the internet and the future. y'arr!"

I happily watched the countdown go live today. I had to be among the first to DL some stuff. I loved the message about the waffles, did anybody else see that?

Stuff isn't quite a well seeded as of yet, but that will soon change.

    @webe123

Couldn't check. I clicked a few things and then had to leave for work. It will take some time for it to return all the way back to its former greatness, but I have faith.

I will wait and see what happens with this site. Normally public trackers only good for multiple sources of files and some hard to found files but i will wait.

Suprnova was THE site back in the day. There are a good many of us who remember this site from long before it was shut down. No reason to think that it will fade away into the wind.

Oh and regarding torrentspy read thisthanks for that. But I read that Torrentspy is hosted in Holland? If that is the case, then wouldn't it just be in the same boat as the Pirate Bay? Also, if you look up on wikipedia, it says Torrentspy has been blocked for US users but I still managed to visit the website.

    26.8.2007 15:51 #22

  • vtowner

In Holland it's most likely illegal to have a site like The Pirate Bay, but not in Sweden(where Pirate Bay hosts it's servers) because in Sweden it isn't illegal to link to copyrighted material. And the mafiaa will never shut it down because the Pirate Bay's servers don't have any copyrighted material on them. All they have is .torrent files which contain only a hash of numbers and letters.

    26.8.2007 16:51 #23

  • Stevel024

Doh! Thought pirate bay was in holland...

And yeah all the torrent sites only host the torrent file not the copyrighted files

In a matter of time this site will be back to its old glory days. It is great to see the new owners bring life to it again.
