Vizio becomes top North American LCD TV vendor

Vizio becomes top North American LCD TV vendor
Vizio, which got its start helping Gateway enter the LCD business, has something to be proud of for itself. It's quietly become the top LCD vendor in the North America.

According to market research firm iSuppli, Vizio was the top North American LCD vendor during the second quarter of the year.

Vizio in the second quarter shipped 606,402 LCD-TVs in North America, up a stunning 76.4 percent increase from 343,704 in the first quarter, iSuppli said. This boosted Vizio's North American unit market share to 14.5 percent, up from 9.4 percent in the first quarter.

With all-digital television on the horizon, there's likely to be an explosion in LCD and other flat panel technologies. Any company that takes good advantage of that market should end up in a very good financial position.

I just purchased a Vizio 37" LCD. Personally I think the picture quality of Vizio is much better when compared side by side with Samsung, Sony, LG, etc. You cant beat the price either.

Go to any Sam's Club and look for yourself. The picture and connections are comparable to anything Samsung or Sony has in the same class.

This is old news i heard of this 2 days ago. Anyways, i don't think they'll sell out like samsung because vizio's motto is good tv's for the price. Now they're not as good as the Sony's but for the price you can't go wrong.

I love my 37' Vizio. Its got a clean picture and quality was definitely the best for the price i paid. All the Tv's i checked out didnt stack up as far as I am concerned. I would definitely buy another next year when im in the market for a new Tv.

Are these Vizio's nice for watching Standard TV and DVD movies? I don't want any HD content. But one thing I noticed is when you watch standard TV on a LCD you get those blocky pixel look. Or is DLP better for standart TV and DVD movies?

Don't think I've previously heard of this company. I'll be on the lookout for them.

Yah vizio really can't compare, you're probably just thinking that because you bought it but it's great for its price.

They can be found in most A/V stores. The sales reflect the following formula... decent quality (also supports 1080P)+ great price = lots of sales. This along with them being marketed in the big discount stores (e.g walmart, costco, etc.).

Yes. I have had mines for about 4 - 6 months and its great. Go to consumer reports or any site that shows the TV ratings you will see a lot of good reviews.

I don't want that blocky pixelated look. My Standard 'old school' non widescreen TV seems to blend these blocks together so it looks more blurry than pixelly.
So Dish Network satellite will look good on Vizio LCD TV?

OK, so you bought a VIZIO. You like the picture. Maybe the sound is okay. Or the speakers rattle only a little. How long is it going to last? Walk into Walmart that's where they are. Personally, it's not a good investment if it lasts just past warranty until it needs repair. Like my flat screen Toshiba.

I bought a 42" VIZIO with a COSTCO coupon--the price was the tipping point for me. Now I spend more time watching tv than I do on the internet at home. It's so much better an upgrade from my old 27" Sharp analog tv, but it also meant upgrading my DVD player to handle the 1080p upconvert. I never knew that one of the local FOX newscasters had freckles until I watched him on my VIZIO. I was also amazed at seeing the blemishes on the meteorologist's face and subtle coloring of her hair. DVD movies are so much better!

Yah but Vizios have terrible standard def picture. And there are a lot more standard def channels than hi def ones. Unless you use like directv also how much worse does satellite hd look than cable hd. Thanks.

I just got for my sister to replace her bad old analog TV a Toshiba 27D46. It was a close out and cheap. Less than $200. It took about 30 minutes to scan the cable and I thought we had bought a dud. Well it finished and everything great. Playing with it I found the Oxygen Channel on 72 and 2 channels with 40 sub channels with music. Some even have a display of what is playing most just say Audio only. Then I found that the 4 major networks were on the 100's in HD DTV. That was a surprise. I checked and the FCC requires all cables to have these. That means they can send Digital signals on regular cable. The TV would automatically go into widescreen but the remote can be used to Zoom or go to 4:3 mode. Anyway the cable company told me that they would be analog for the most part and gradually add digital for a slow transition. However it may require Fiber Optics to get the bandwidth. My sister doesn't like the slowness in changing channels. She is disabled and I am encouraging her to use the keypad. Otherwise she has no idea what DTV is.
