Toshiba A3 HD DVD sees price fall to $199 USD

Toshiba A3 HD DVD sees price fall to $199 USD
In a somewhat surprising move, Best Buy and Circuit City have begun offering Toshiba's 1080i HD-A3 HD DVD player for $199 USD, a $100 cut off the original price. What makes the move surprising is that the player has only been in stores since October.

To sweeten the pot, the A3 comes with 7 free HD DVD movies, two with the purchase and 5 more through a mail-in-offer.

Although Sears announced they would have the player for $169 USD on Black Friday, supplies will be very limited then. Best Buy and Circuit City don't appear to have limited supply and are offering the deal online and in-store.

Well well, the "war" heats up.

If Amazon's movies are the same (I assume they are) then two of the free movies, included in the box according to Amazon, are actually worth it in my opinion.

Amazon.com has 300 and The Bourne Identity listed as the movies packaged inside the box.

The "5 free" offer are not bad movies either but, if I remember right, you get to select only 1 from each of the 5 categories and some of the categories have movies that are not very good.

Needless to say, something may happen to help one side dominate the other this holiday season. However, I will probably never get involved in this war, even if a real winner emerges.

    Peace

    I don't get it :S

Hasn't Blu-Ray been running the 5 movies free campaign for months now? Even with the PS3, and sometimes places like Amazon would through in the extra remote :)

$199? Wal-Mart and Best Buy are going to be selling the A2's for $99.

I'll most likely keep waiting until the 1080p models drop to this level of pricing, although honestly I would much rather not choose one format over the other but those dual format players are still just so darn high.

Actually you can get 10 free HD-DVDs with this deal from Best Buy!!

The HD-A3 comes with 2 HD-DVDs in the box (300 and Bourne Identity), plus there is a mail-in rebate for 5 additional HD-DVDs, PLUS for the next week or so, you can get ANY 3 HD-DVDs (excluding boxed sets and television shows) free with purchase of any Toshiba HD-DVD player at Best Buy. Sweet!

the free discs offers are true but I have yet to see the A2 for $99 unless I missed the sale or "they" ran out or whatever. Right now Walmart is showing the A2 at 229 that's a far cry from 99. I don't even see the A2 at best buy. the links in this thread for the free discs are for real, but links in other threads about a $99 A2 are bogus. Do you people work for Toshiba? Bottom line, I can wait until the price goes down for real. Like Howard Stern says high definition? I don't know that I need anymore definition than I'm getting right now.

almost forgot Best Buy is showing the A3 at 299 not 199 as per this article. unless the in store price is indeed 199 which they have to match either or that would make the headline for this article bogus as well.

I tend to go with what i said in the article before this one. Go for these products when the hype goes down.
