Men prefer YouTube content, Women prefer TV hits
According to data reported by research firm Nielsen Online, the video habits of women suggest a bias towards big network television content that is available on the Internet, while men seem to prefer the amateurish short video clips found on YouTube-like sites. The data also suggests that both types of videos are watched mostly at radically different times of the day.

Women in the 18 to 34 year old range are twice as likely as men to watch streaming video on broadcast network TV sites. Most the network TV viewing happens during the lunch hours, or between noon and 2pm. Men are two and a half times more likely to spend their time watching content on sites like YouTube, and this viewing is done mostly anywhere between 10pm and 6am.

The data was sourced from Nielsen Online's new VideoCensus service. It comes after analysts at comScore revealed that the Hollywood writers strike had driven a YouTube-led record month for video viewing. 141 million Internet users in America watched content from sites like YouTube, MySpace, Veoh and Break.com during December.

youtube is real crap.. violence, animal cruelty and kids being a$$holes, not to mention all the low res pr0n and just plain sicko stuff..

I don't do tv links either, pure tech or occasionally watching some sport without paying pikey sky £40

Free open source software = made by end users who want an application to work.... Commercial "pay for" software = made by software developers who want paying... see where I'm going with this?

I've never found a porn video on YouTube because I've never looked, but the important thing is, the porn cannot be found by innocent searches, at least from my own experience.

I completely disagree with people who trash-talk YouTube. Sure there are people who post complete crap to YouTube that makes you wonder if Natural Selection is on vacation, but there's millions upon millions of videos and in there are some real gems including educational and informative videos that everybody should see sometime.

It also plays hosts to many of the important debates of today, such as the Creationism (I.D.) vs. Evolution debate, which by now must have thousands of videos from either side (although I have to say having seen most of them, Evolution is the clear winner) and that's just one example, you can find pretty much whatever you want on YouTube, it's a wonderful resource.

Also, there is the benefit to big and small websites and blogs alike. The ability to just upload your video to YouTube and embed it into your blog, and knowing Google's servers will always be able to feed your traffic whether its 1 view or a million views. When it comes to online video, it is the revolutionary entity whatever way you look at it and it is changing people's habbits on the web big time.

Of course, there are other more moderated websites with good content too, but that also means the selection inevitably has to suffer.

    That's just my 2 cents anyways :-)

That explains why I get so many negative comments when I post cute videos like this one http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4_qd0Zl8CiA . Got to make my YouTube videos for the male audience next time, I guess.

There're lots of videos and various content can be enjoyed by women either. What about that one? No cruelty, no blood, just jokes and awkward situatuons of one guy.

I've never proactively searched youtube. Fortunately, friends only send me links to funny vids. So I can't totally say that youtube sucks.

In my opionion i feel this is true why because men do not have long attention spands compared to women so hence the youtube short video clips appeal to the male gender.
