Microsoft details 60GB Xbox 360 in UK
Last month Microsoft confirmed that it would be releasing a 60GB version of its Xbox 360 console, one that will replace the smaller capacity 20GB model.

The software giant has released more details today on the system, including the confirmation that the system will retail for GBP 199.99. Bundled with the console is a wireless controller, a headset and one month subscription to Xbox Live Gold.

Beginning on August 15th, the new model will be available alongside the entry-level Arcade model which will sell for GBP 159.99, and the Elite model which offers HDMI and higher capacity storage for GPB 259.99.

"No one device offers the depth and breadth of entertainment that Xbox 360 can deliver and we know consumers need increasingly more and more space to store the amazing digital entertainment content we provide,"
said Neil Thompson, senior regional director for Microsoft's Entertainment and Devices Division. "Now the Xbox 360 has triple the space to house all your entertainment needs at no extra cost."

its 159 GBP not USB, ours will be 199 USD. ..159GBP is like over $300 USD.

The 360 will probably never shake off its reputation for hardware failure, but at these prices with a large library of games I'm really starting to consider it.

I really think MS is starting to look like the over all long term victor in this generation of consoles. I would have never said that 6 months ago, but it just seems like sony can't keep up and nintendo has already hit its peak.

It would be a nice next step for microsoft to upgrade all their models with HDMI rather than just the elite. Also it would have been nice for microsoft to allow ppl to fit there own sized HD depending on there needs (and what i mean by that is you can go down to any PC store and by a HD and just plug it in yourself), or atleast offer the "official" HD at reasonable prices

the Core unit also has a mount for HDMI it was never attached, it saved 5 dollars every 100 consoles, cheap assholes really if you good with a soldering gun you can attach your own all non-HDMI ported consoles usually have ether no-solder fill or half solder fill.

this price drop and HD storage increase is good, but it leaves us to DIY your own 60GB-HD unit. not me though i already have a 120GB of HD storage for content from market place

I wouldn't buy the 360 for much other than exploitation. If the PS3 gets an exploit I'll never look toward the 360, but if and when the 360 60GB drops to around $249CDN I might just buy it.

That, and to play H3 with all my friends that also bought a 360 only for H3 :P

I see Microsoft making smarter and smarter moves as the time goes on. I think Microsoft is putting themselves in a really good position to keep it's #2 spot. The PS3 just doesn't have enough steam to keep it's current momentum going. The only way Sony can stay near the 360 is to constantly drop it's price and OR release some freakin games that show why a PS3 should be purchased, and if they don't, the PS3 will be disregarded again as the most expensive. I really like what Microsoft has been doing lately!

I am impressed, a HD console thats as cheap as the Wii (60GB version). I might just complete the next gen console trilogy!

I have a few friends and cousins who bought a xbox360 when they were first released who experienced the RROD but none have had the problem since the newer consoles have been out. I dont ever buy a system when it first hits the market just for that reason and have had no problems with mine nor has anyone else i know who has a newer version console. I wonder how many people actually didnot have the RROD and thought they did. I actually saw a guy at gamestop a few weeks back swapping out a xbox360 who actually had a short in his power supply cord somewhere and it was causing his RROD. They got him a new power supply and it solved his problem. I know that people say that the percent for RROD is still high but i really havenot seen anyone yet have the RROD who has a console made after Microsoft admitted the RROD to the public. I still think Microsoft has the best console as long as you dont have one of the older models and with the the library their isnot much competition. I do have a regret that Tekken 6 is exclusive to the PS3 as it is my favorite fighting game. Rented Soulcaliber IV last night and i am really not impressed. Combos system, and move list are weak and need some work.

Yes they need to remove all the 20GB drives and replace them with 60GB units or have the 20GB units come out with the arcade units.

Just wondering about the blueray comment. Are you saying you want it just to watch movies??? B/c i have not seen an advantage with blueray when talking about the games yet. Proof Madden 09 just dropped and their are basically identical. Nor is any exclusive PS3 game superior to anything on xbox360 graphically. Sony hasnot taken advantage of blueray yet with games. I have read online from those that have played the new Gears of War II that it has the best graphics to date of any game so if you are using blueray mainly for the movies then that is really sad that's your PS3 is mainly just a blueray player. Honestly i have read here on a article on afterdawn that most people havenot upgraded to Blueray over DVD b/c they feel the diff in picture quality is not worth the extra money that blueray movies cost. I agree.

Just wanted to say..have you played MGS4? That's proof enough. But you are right, Sony has not taken advantage of bluray yet..but the PS3 is superior to the 360..not now, but MGS4 is proof enough as well as the specs that the PS3 has as well.

    Off topic,

Superior in graphics maybe, but i no longer care about graphical updates there good enough, i want to see real physics & AI, for instance if i am running and jump off a cliff the enemy that was chasing me could be able to hear the gravel falling off the cliff and be waiting for me at the other side.

Lets say there is a gun fight in a mansion, there are 30 guys one of you lets say your out of tactical devices, but that chandelier hanging there over those bady's could prove a useful diversion cutting of advancement they could go around but you notice that the walk way there on has two support beams instead of wasting nades on the badies blow up those beams or the very floor there on. cutting advance meant even further

or bullet damage, splinter damage its very generic. weapon physics are also generic that 12 gauge buckshot does not have the same kick back as a spread load. weapons jamming its a part of life on the war field why not in games weapon degradation it happens.

this should all be improved before we even think of who as better graphics. both consoles lack this ability to handle this kind of ability without software support.

I was told that Gears of war 2 has the best graphics from what i have read online, even better than MGS4 so no there is no proof.
As far as specs. What good are they? I can tell you that i can make the sky purple and show it to you on paper but untill i actually show you then it really doesnot matter. PS3 is said to be superior powerwise and i am not saying it is not. I actually believe it myself but Sony has yet to proof this and MGS4, thought a remarkable game, doesnot prove that the PS3 is superior to the xbox360 when we are talking about graphic power. MGS4 is a new game so it is suppose to be great graphic wise but when GOW2 is released and the graphic beats MGS4 then what has sony proved. Nothing. I am not big on graphics myself as i am into the games (library) but sony has yet to prove the PS3 is superior. They still havenot figured it out and i know that does has some due the fact that the PS3 was released a year behind the xbox360 so they have had less time to program and develop for it. Lets be real here If i walked in on you playing a few multiconsole games there is no way by looking at the tv screen i would know if you were playing on PS3 or xbox360 b/c the games are basically identical at this present time. But is you were playing (Madden on Wii) and i walked in and looked at the tv i probably would say, "Man those graphics look horrible compared to my xbox360, or PS3." But untill then it would be better just to say that the PS3 has the potential to be superior to the xbox360 b/c at this present time sony claims to have a V-12 engine and xbox a V-8. Chevrolet makes a corvette v-8 that beats a large majority of foreign V-12's.

The sega saturn was said to be superior to the PS1 originally by Sega. Everyone kept lookin at the spec and comparing. Supposedly the Sega saturn was difficult to program for and they just had to figure it out then the games would start to look way better than the ps1 games. They never figured it out evidently b/c ps1 games easliy outshined the graphics on the sega saturn. You cant always look at specs. I walked in on my cousin(who owned both systems) playing tomb raider and immediately asked him what the hell was wrong with his tv and later realised there was nothing wrong with his tv. I had the game on PS1 and he bought if for his saturn. There was a big noticable difference.
