Upcoming iPod Touch to get camera and mic?

Upcoming iPod Touch to get camera and mic?
Over the past few weeks, rumors have been swirling that the upcoming upgraded Apple iPod Touch will have a camera, adding a much wanted feature to the popular media player.

The latest rumor, via Wired, adds to the camera notion by saying Apple will add a mic as well, allowing for the possibility of video recording as well as Skype.

"Well connected sources," speaking to Wired, say the upcoming device will be available "in two to three months."

The move would theoretically turn the Touch into a phone (at least where Wi-Fi is available), notably without the need for an expensive contract with data plan.

We will keep you updated.

Having a removable battery is much more convenient IMO. You can just buy the battery and swap it out instead of sending your device to apple. I don't know about the touch but I know apple charges 80 bucks to replace the battery in the iphone. That's bs if you ask me. It would make the device thicker but that's a small price to pay.

You're probably happy paying 50% more for hardware and software for a mere brand name than oh say quality or versatility ......

Baa baa lil sheep baa baa.

I can find higher amH non brand name batteries at 30% less of the price of brand name stuff, you know the stuff they have made so cheaply sometimes it explodes? Yet they are charging you almost double for it....

I've had pretty good luck with off brand batteries only a few heated up to the point where I decided to replace them fewer still had bad cells, I find the whole pripriority battery scam to be nothing more than a way for them to not have to cut back on their cocaine intake.

When it comes to traditional C,D,AA/AA/AAAA,ect I do lean in favor of energizer or Duracell they tend to hold a charge better when you recharge them gently. :X
(and I mean the the non rechargeable alkaline ones)

My iPod Video needs a new battery. It pretty much only lasts an hour now with music. I can get a new battery off of eBay for $5. If the battery was removable, I wouldn't have to destroy the shit to get it open (cause those plastic tools aren't always great).

Do you see the point now?

Then you would agree it would be better if they made them with a replaceable battery? :P

Thanks for the reply. I do see what you are saying. I have never had a problem or even needed to replace a rechargeable battery in my laptop, phone, or mp3 player (and no they are not Apple products)...... And Energizer > Duracell

I've had to replace a couple laptop batteries in a half dozen years or so and that's an easy 100-200$ depending on what you get/where you get it, generics can run less(50-100$) and from sites like ebay if it fails in 30 or so days you can return it with a vengeance most of the time.

It comes down to consumers knowing anything and then doing something about it, apple is keeping people dumb and charging them 3 or 4 times for something that dose not need to waste so much time and money.

Yes I sound like an elitist ass when I claim sheeple, ect but really people if you are so beholdant to the system and gleefully willing to partake in it then you are as much of the problem as I am whinny :P

Apple can do better quality wise and shave at LEAST 25% off their hardware prices, all the while gaining more consumers. but the market being the mindless beast it is driven by gleeful consumers forces them not to change as is it with most mass market sht.

Not being able to change the battery is a huge deal and I can't imagine how that is not obvious. I can't think of any electronic device that does not use a replaceable battery.
If it were replaceable you could have spares, you could charge separately, you could replace inexpensively you could even upgrade it to a higher capacity.
All of these industry standard options are out the window with a device that you cannot change the battery

    22.7.2009 13:57 #15

  • Shinraboy

Great. That's EXACTLY what we need. More features, less battery life. Dammit soon everything is going to do same thing. Why don't they improve battery life first?

But you have to admit this planed obsolescence is a boon for business!

One example of Apple "stealing" money.
I have a broken 1st gen 4GB Nano that's stuck in an infinite loop of "Please Restore with iTunes", It broke during the time the 3rd gen Nano's were out. I hated the 3rd gen nano. I called Apple and asked how much it would be to repair my iPod. They said that you can buy a new 4GB for $99. I said that I don't like those models and I would like mine fixed. They put me on hold and then came back with a price of $120 to fix my existing iPod Nano 1st Gen. I asked why it was more expensive. They said that they don't know but then quickly changed the topic to "Which new iPod would you like to get? The new 4GB is a really good deal. Should I place an order?"
I'm not joking about the above. They actually were ready to place the order for the new one at that instant. Ever since, I've hated Apple but I have to admit, the people at the stores are quite friendly.

I currently have a 2g and I love it but I can't live without a jailbreak so I probably will wait until the new one is jailbroken then get it

on the otherhand I would still have my 2g so the new features would outway it for a while both of those are things that I would love to have allong with a 3gs prossessor for faster speeds
