Linux users prefer Google over Bing

Linux users prefer Google over Bing
According to data from Chitika, Linux users vastly prefer the Google search engine over Bing.

The data was compiled from 163 million searches done between July 30th and August 16th.

Despite growing market share, Bing falls flat for Linux users, with Google taking almost 95 percent share. Yahoo is hardly any better.

...and how many % of users use linux? I prefer google over yahoo or bing and use linux and windows systems every day, but dont see anything news worthy here. Bing gets most users from those who use ie because it is default search, while google is default search for most browsers like opera or firefox(usually linux default).

its common sense that everyone loves and uses Google its because its simple and does not have extra clutter on the screen.

    Edit

I just went to the bing site and i have to say its preety lame that Microsoft has to copy a google like layout.

why not copy them? it works so try it.

yahoo and bing both suck. i dont mean that in any fanboy way even though google is also my favorite company. i tried to find something on yahoo today that i found pretty easily on google yesterday, and it was thrown in my face how much yahoo sucks in comparison. i had to quit and switch back to google just to find the right link.

Just tried looking for images "afterdawn creaky text speak" in Bing, it came back with 1 paltry link. I guess it's because it's new, or not many people use it yet. Back to Google i go... too much distraction on screen anyway, for me personally i use a search engine to find something quickly, without fuss, bother, fluff or distraction :p

I used to use yahoo, but I tried google once and it popped up with exactly what I wanted. Then I tried using it for about a week, and everytime it was like google read my mind and found me exactly what I was looking for. This was quite a few years ago, and since then I haven't bothered to try and other search engine.

Google.com, it's a search engine that does absolutely nothing but be a god damned search engine, and that's how it should be.

Is there a reason for linux users to want to use some crappy totally unknown search engine? I've never even heard of "bing" and i've used windows for years and linux for few months.

This "article" of useless statistics that pretty much everyone allready knows is a total waste of time.

99% of linux users switched to linux because they hate microsoft...it only makes sence that they prefer to avoid using microsoft's search engine, even if it was as good as google (and it is not). I used to use altavista, but then they sold the company to yahoo (and then got sold to several other companies, then back to yahoo again)...it has been junk since the first sale to yahoo. Still, yahoo is a better search engine than bing.

Also, on microsoft operating systems, the "bing" sound is used for error messages...They know that their search engine is junk, so they named it after their own error sound!

creaky, I think it is just because bing was never meant to be. Anyone one on the upper level management team must be a moron. If you are going into a saturated market you need to kill the competition like Google did. I guess they were hoping the catchy name would make up for their incompetence.

i dont think it is even close to 20%... thats because M$ gives windows free or nearly free in those countries that can´t afford it.

Sorry man, we didn't realize that "you" would be reading it. Of course, if we knew "you" would be reading it, we wouldn't write it, because the whole site revolves around you and _you_ alone. I mean, when you pretty much "allready" know that Google is bigger than a competing service you _never_ actually even heard of, you are making perfect sense by protesting a news blurb, that you didn't have to read if you didn't want to - or spend extra time writing a comment on - then your logic must be on some higher level that the rest of us just cannot understand.

Please accept my sincere apologies on behalf of our whole staff worldwide for wasting your time, and abetting you to waste your own time not just reading what you already know (yet somehow, never heard of) but also writing a contradictory comment on top of it.

First of all, I didn't write that summary - wonderful attention to detail you have. Secondly, yes, a Saturday tends to be a slow news day in tech. But considering it wasn't a very large undertaking to post it, and it was submitted to AfterDawn to post.. then why not?

Well lets be honest.. I did learn something here.. That there is some thing called "bing" that I have never heard of before and that I have no intention of investigating after reading the few users comments about it's overall naffness....

Nice to see Dogpile getting a plug. Best engine for stars fansites and pictures IMHO.. well that's what this sad celebrity obsessed girl uses it for.. between painting her nails and twattering with her brainless friends XD

Where did I leave my IRC .. ???

Puzzled why the M$ fanboys can't see sense.. 90% of the computers on the planet run something other than their beloved winduhz... and that number increases every day. 28 computers here.. not one winduhz machine amongst them..

Nothing better to do? It's about 17 of us who maintain 8 sites and growing. News is NOT in any way something we like doing, it's just something we offer (at a loss) to users who want to read it, so when people, like you, come along and start moaning about the content, we are well within our rights to ask why the hell you are moaning about something we never asked you to read. Go ahead and moan about the actual "subject matter" all you want, we don't agree with everything we write either, we do it by request and are generally unbiased in how we present it. Some of the stuff that we have to write is so boring and repetitive that we actually argue who will cover it at times... Oh some bittorrent site got shut down huh? Oh Wii won this month again in consoles? Oh Blu-ray sales are up 2% huh? So trust me, we don't write it because we like it, we write it because people read it, judging by stats.

Other than news, AfterDawn's to-do list is EXTREMELY long, has all resources stretched (largely due to some big changes that will happen soon). At aD's main office in Oulu Finland, months worth of work is already allocated and the more that's cleared from the log, the longer it gets.... so when it comes to your "nothing better to do" comment, you have no clue what you are talking about.

Again, just so you understand me, I don't take issue with you arguing against the subject, it's when you go out of your way to try to insult staff who did nothing wrong to you, that's what I take issue with, and usually we just laugh it off and leave it be but every now and then I just have to reply, especially since you contradicted yourself in your own comment, which shows you didn't know anything about the subject matter, you just took an opportunity to take a swipe. But by all means, don't like it, don't read it.
