Let's just hope the loyal RedBox customers are willing to wait a month before renting the newest releases; which can be considered as protesting the other video rental services. LOL.

i dont use them but i have actually seen people lined up at the machines. hopefully they post the websites on the machines let people know whats going on

LOL.RedBox does not have any loyal customers! These are the same people who used to rent from the grocery store because it was the most convenient place to rent at the time. If any other machine or video store was closer to a customer, redbox would not get a chance.

I will drive out of my way to stop at a redbox. I would much rather pay a $1 then $5. The only time I don't go to redbox is when I go to Family Video. And that is because the offer free kids movie rentals.

I honestly dont think they will loose any money from a 30 day delay. Im sure people dont wake up and say "im going to a red box to pick up that new hit movie"(atleast I dont). Those boxes are great for when you travel or on the way home after picking up dinner. Dont think its a big deal.

Why in the world do people HAVE to have the new releases when they come out? People need to step back and realize that we need to slow down a bit and stop feeding the "I NEED IT NOW" monster!

Redbox is one of the best ideas in home video. I won't go to Hollywood or Blockbuster, ever. These studios are so greedy, they have to withhold their movies for a month. Pure greed. I can wait, I've waited for the movie to leave the theater, what's another month. Their lucky to have Redbox still support their movies. I wish I would have thought of Redbox. When is the videogame Redbox coming?

I view this as the movie mafia showing their true colors. They are all about screwing the public. They don't care if there is a recession as long as it doesn't effect them. I bet Red Box was not buying ALL the garbage movies like BB does because the box can't hold all the garbage put out by the movie industry each month. With a monthy agreement you must rent it or lose it so you watch garbage when there is nothing else because it is part of the plan. BB will buy pure garbage which they do not make the usual profit because not enough persons watch garbage. Too bad for them they are too stupid to figure that out. If they did they wouldn't be going out of business.
vbot, I am sure that they are greedy but their business model is their real problem. Both companies are going out of business. If it was pure greed they should be rolling in doe. THAT is what this is really all about. The movie ind is trying to save the brick and morter stores. Infact the are protecting the only place that buys garbage movies no matter how bad they are.
KillerBug, I agree Redbox has no loyal customers. I think that is only fair since no one cares about the customers only the LACK thereof.
You are way wrong about easy being the prime motivator. It is cost. I will go an extra mile or two to rent for a dollar what I would otherwise have to pay 5 for. Well actually, I haven't paid $5 to rent a movie in 3-4 years. Most movies are not worth $5 to rent. SORRY! For most of the movies they are only worth a buck. Unless it is one of the 3 good movies made that year I will be happy to wait a few months of maybe not rent the garbage at all. This is the same mentality these same bastards use destroying movies instead of selling them for what the market will bare. Heaven forbid! Give the public a break! Not in your life!
Red Box and the likely will triump in the end. BB and H will go out of business anyway. They ARE WAY OVERPRICED! $5 was good when you couldn't buy the movie for under $20. Now you might be able to buy that same old movie for $5-$7.
I have finished getting screwed by Blockbuster, Hollywood or maybe even Netflix. NF looks the best out of those dregs. I really don't need to watch 16 low grade movies a month (the BB 3 disk unlimited deal). I just dropped BB last month after they made the 3 disk deal less sweet. They went from being a little better than NF to a little worse. I guessed they thought the public was too stupid to figure that one out. I think that will be the end of them.

Just thought I'd let you know I don't know about other areas,but I work PT at a Wal-Mart in the New York area, the rebdbox rep comes and purchases those companies new releases the day they come out and sticks them into the machine. For instance this past tuesday, he bought like 20 copies of Duplicity to drop into machines in the area.

I thought I read here on AfterDawn that redbox was simply purchasing the movies at a lesser discount from other sources (retailers). If the studios have blocked that avenue shouldn't there be some kind of an anti-trust suit posted by redbox? I personally use redbox at least twice a week and my usual video store sees me about once every other week now, cant compete $1 vs $3 for a movie, plus I reserve online so the movie is in the kiosk when I get there.

A few people mentioned the fact that video rental stores overcharge which is a problem due to the recession. Heres my issue with those statements. Stop and think for just one second how much worse it would be it BB and HV went out of business, I say this because of all of the people who would be out of jobs. Maybe you should stop being selfish and thinking of yourselves and think about those thousands of people. I know this is terrible because my husband used to work for Game Crazy and they closed 20/29 stores in the state, all of those people, him included were left without jobs. And the job market is absolutely terrible as it is. Why make it worse. Honestly I fully back the HV rental plans. I think they are great and the people are so friendly. Where as those at BB are always rude and act as if they don't have the time of day. One more reason I support video stores over RB is to think about when I have just spent time and money on renting a movie only to get it home and find that it doesn't work. Atleast with stores you can go and exchange it or get credit for it.

I'm sorry that your husband lost his job but in the event I loose mine then I would prefer to have my hard earned dollars in the bank than having donated them to any company that must charge more than I am willing to pay just because they support a huge brick and mortar building and exorbitant electric bills etc. For my money the $1 is better spent than the $3 to $4 plus membership that most other renters charge. Would you pay $2000.00 month for a ghetto dwelling or would you pay the same to live in a much better environment. It all comes down to Dollars and SENCE. Especially when that $1 rents the same movie as that $3.

RedBox gave in to the lawsuit and settled today. There will now be a 28 day release on Warner Bros releases.
This news is very disappointing to me. I canceled my Netflix account on the day that Netflix accepted this same agreement. Screw the consumer, eh?
Makes me happy to pirate everything I watch from now on.
