100,000 DROIDs sold first weekend

100,000 DROIDs sold first weekend
According to analyst Mark McKechnie of Broadpoint AmTech, Motorola and Verizon sold about 100,000 DROID phones in its first weekend of availability.

Verizon is said to have had 200,000 of the smartphone on hand, and most stores sold about half of their stock. Overall, Motorola will sell 1 million phones using Android in the Q4 2009.

100,000 is a very high weekend launch number by normal standards, but the Apple iPhone 3GS sold over 1 million during its launch weekend in June.

“I see the first few days as encouraging,” McKechnie adds. “There seems to be pretty good demand -- they’ve taken the right steps and picked a good partner with Google on the Android side.”

So far, the reviews seem decent, but most of the reviewers still seem to like the iPhone better. I think one compared it by just saying it's the best smartphone that VERIZON has now.

By the way, is anyone else totally creeped out by the redheaded girl in the Palm Pre TV ads?

Considering that it is a PHONE, the network is as much a part of the phone as anything else. The best phone on the best network...sounds like a great review to me.

Aye, AT&T's network has been cited as one of the major gripes of iphone users.

Its nice to see more Android phones coming on the market, now if we can just get over this whole carrier locked phone promotion thing.

    Down with sigs.

I have to admit, this is a pretty cool phone.

My approval says a lot seeing that I buy all my phones oversees that are much more advanced than those in the U.S.

It's about time though. Motorola puts out garbage that lags behind EVERY nation out there making phones. In fact, just about everthing in the U.S. is crap compared to every other nation on the cutting edge of cellular technology.

God help anyone that defends the U.S. phone selections because they would be flat out wrong.

Best network my ass. Technically yes, Verizon provides more comprehensive coverage but frankly people don't care. As long as they get a good connection and reception in their major metro area for a DECENT price then that's all that matters to most.

Verizon, at&t, Sprint all are way over priced. T-mobile outdid themselves with 49.99 for unlimited minutes. Moreover, they only charge like 10 bucks for a basic 50meg internet plan.........great for email only when used on the job. Anyone surfing the net on a phone with any significant frequency is a dork, nerd, loser. Pick a term.

The Most Important thing on a 3G cell-phone is:
    1.-The Operation System.
    2.-The Coverage.

    So:
    #1 is Symbian OS
    #2 is Droid
    #3 iPhone
    #4 Windowns Movil
    #5 Black Berry

    +3000
