Molyneux takes shot at PlayStation Move

Molyneux takes shot at PlayStation Move
Peter Molyneux of Microsoft, the man behind games like Fable, has taken a shot at Sony's PlayStation Move motion control system, saying it is no different than the Wii's four year-old motion controls.

In an interview, Molyneux said: "I find it hard in my mind to differentiate between the Sony Move and the Wii... I know Sony and Nintendo would argue that they are different, but they kind of seem the same."

Those comments mirror critics of the Move, who say the system is very similar to the Wii's controls, even down to the controller's shape.

Sony has downplayed those concerns, arguing that the Move is much more sophisticated because it can track player motion through a camera, while also capturing full depth of motion. The Wii can only recognize 2D movements.

Playing up Microsoft's upcoming Kinect motion control system, Molyneux says: "It would be very easy for [Microsoft] to have created something like the Wii, but instead they did go that extra mile and they said, 'No, we're going to make that huge step.'"

The Kinect is set for release in November.

Ah modern gaming its like modern film only the watering down of fiction and characters is replaced with shallow and watered down mechanics, gimmicks and shiny-er "people".

I really hope Sony gets Kevin Butler to take a shot back at Peter Molyneux. KB is too cool.

Besides populous, what is there? I remember before fable came out everyone was saying how you'd be able to do this and that in it, but when I played the game myself it didn't seem much different than any other game.

It would be very easy for [Microsoft] to have created something like the Wii, but instead they did go that extra mile

so far they have an overpriced system with no core games, just kiddy ones, and a laggy interface at that

They are all the same...some come with a controller, some don't, some track you with a camera...they are all targeted at the same segment...and by releasing both at once, sony and microsoft are trying to wipe out what is left of Nintendo's home market. The only real difference is that the PS3 will have 3D games to go with the 3D movement...but even that is a gimmick.

And the wiimote is not the same as the move-mote; one becomes a DVD remote after a week, and the other becomes a BluRay remote after a week!

The Playstation Eye for the PS2 can do what the Kenetic does. We were hitting/kicking balls around, spinning plates, fighting ninjas 10 years ago on the PS2. The Kenetic is nothing new, neither is the Move. The Move just offers the Wii controls (maybe better) and the old PS Eye controls. MS is doing half of it and not as well. Will MS invent the Wheel next?

Thats almost as good as the PS2 eye toy. I like the post from NHS2008 that compares the two.

Nintendo has nothing to worry about because there is a fundamental difference between their system and XBOX/PS3. With the Wii the motion controls are an integral part of the system while with XBOX and PS3 it's another add-on you have to buy. This is the same reason why the PS2 Eye wasn't a massive hit. Sony expects me to pay $300 for their system plus $100 extra for this add-on plus $50 for games? Seriously the Wii costs $200 with all that and every game has motion sensing not just may be 10% of the games.
