Sony slashes price of PSPgo

Sony slashes price of PSPgo
Sony has announced today that is slashing the price of the PSPgo handheld in the United States and in Japan.

The move comes as the holiday season approaches and on the heels of even more PSP 2 rumors.

Rival Nintendo is set to launch their highly-anticipated 3DS handheld before the summer of next year.

In the U.S., Sony will drop the price of the "go" to $200 from $250 and in Japan the price will drop to 16,800 yen ($207 USD) from 26,800 ($330 USD).

Overall, Sony has sold 60 million PSP units, although it is widely expected that the PSPgo has sold very poorly, no matter what market.

Very true, still way too expensive. I'd consider it for $99.99. Maybe.

I have the PSP 1000 still, and I have found no reason to upgrade. Hopefully the PSP2 comes before summer, even though it says next fall.

As long as every game they make also comes out to UMD, slashing the price was pointless. How about save on your bottom line and stop selling those models entirely.

At the start of the article, i thought it would say $100, but $250 to $200. Its like nothing changed.

I wonder what happened to the Japanese engineer who thought this up.

It isn't his fault that sony removed the cell phone functionality from the thing and then charged twice what it was worth while refusing to provide support for UMD game transfers. Sony actually announced that the PSPgo was nothing but an experiment to see how much crap people would endure (or something like that)...ok, I think the experiment was actually, "Wouldn't it be funny if we made a download-only portable system with no 3G?"
