Jailbroken PS3s get first Sega Genesis emulator
The PlayStation 3 has gotten its first Sega Genesis emulator this week, from the same source who released the PSX emulator last week.

Dubbed GenesisPlus GX, the emulator supports 2-player gaming, ROM/ZIP support, and SVP emulation.

The emulator is still a test version, and promises to be full of bugs.

PS3SX, the PSX emulator, has support for full speed, full screen, CDDA and XA audio, 2-player support, saving, and image formats .iso, .bin, .mds and .img.

The read-me file for GenesisPlusGX:

Lol @ the guy's comment about AD news being pulled from other major internet news sites being deleted.

    Talk about censorship.

Does the source really matter at all? If the source is Valid and the news story original (ie not changed), does it matter that much if it is a wee bit behind the times?

Not at all, but when the moderator's are actually going to the lengths of deleting users posts which make it apparent that these news topics are coming from other site's, then it matters.

Chris' posts were deleted because he takes time out of his day to insult AfterDawn staff while not bringing anything else of value. That was his 4th nickname already, the first three were banned by the moderating team.

This article is sourced, just like every other one.

If you want to continue this, PM me.

Hmm. What's all the fuss about? Someone commenting on news coming from other sites? Go to http://news.google.com and search for any news item... how many sources are there??? News comes from a variety of sources, and each news item here has (or should have) a source link embedded in the text. Exclusions are press releases and any site news. Anything beyond text (such as an image) does (or should) credit the original by name and link. Like more or less every other similar-sized site, we link to source by a text link in the article when referencing a quote or statement of fact (linking this way is of most value to Google when determining positioning of search results... that benefits the source... not AfterDawn).

One of the main ways we end up writing stuff is that a link is submitted by a user. We don't follow the PS3 scene, or Xbox 360 scene or whatever specific area you want to mention like users do on the forums, so we have to wait until somebody alerts us to something. If you already read it on the forum... so what? Don't read it again then. This is one complaint I haven't been able to understand over the years...

Other than that I have no idea what this thread is about, and I rarely even write news anyway. I will say though that over the years I've had my fair share of persistently offensive users who use news comments only to stir up trouble, and I don't hesitate to kick them out either. Criticism is one thing, I have always found it welcome and never usually miss taking up a challenge from a user on something I write. That's beneficial for everyone so don't get the wrong idea. It's only when a user has no interest in debate and only wants to piss me off that its time to treat them as what they are, spammers. That being said, once again, I have no idea who this Chris guy is and I really don't have the time to even find out :-) I'll leave that gladly in the hands of the mods or admins, if it came to that.

Perhaps I'm missing something else this is all about?

don't ask me as no offensive report was done.

Never actually noticed this. As mentioned in my last reply, 90% of news comes from another source. That's the reality for 99% of sites except for the big boys (AP, Reuters, AFP etc.). A lot of the time the source is press release, almost always when reporting a new product, for example.

If you are referring to 1:1 copying of text, then I completely reject the accusation. The only thing ever copied 1:1 (the case for every site) is a direct quote, such as a statement from a spokesman, a comment from a CEO etc. On AfterDawn, this text is always shown in quotes. The only cases of 1:1 outside of this are content from press releases at times, or statements/open letters put out by organizations online and intended to be spread around that way.

As for censorship, we certainly don't censor comments. The only time we remove comments are if they are spam or, for example, if their existence is only for nefarious purposes. At times, for example, I've opted to delete entire flame wars in news comments to avoid it becoming a bigger mess.

So I hope that clears it up.

I'd just like to say that I've been coming to AD for my news for nearly 8 years now and find it a cracking site. I don't want to be trawling all over the net for my news fix so taking stories from other sources is fine by me!

meh...I thought we had something on topic going here...It's like anything else if you don't like what is going on here go somewhere else...How about deleting these off topic posts? Anybody remember what the article was about? lol

I don't think that ever going to happen... Unless the mod involves replacing the chips inside the PS3 with that of Xbox parts, lol.

    Peace!

Well, considering the *huge* library of games for the PS1, many of which are quite good, I don't see the confusion. Many games on the PS1 are worthwhile; both the RPG and scrolling-shooter ("shmup") genres are consistently very well-represented, for example.

In fact, in many ways, older games often have SUPERIOR gameplay, simply because that's really all they had - lol*! No modern graphics and sound to hide their faults... "XCom: UFO Defense" for the PS1 is a rather good example of my point.

There's also the fact that the games are smaller, easy to find on the net (*cough*) and therefore quite easy to pirate. There's even 2 *active* torrents, one with ALL NTSC GAMES, and one with ALL PAL GAMES ever released o.O', where you can find the most esoteric titles.

I can certainly understand if someone isn't interested in the emulator and/or PS1 games themselves, but the appeal seems pretty obvious to me.

    * Edit --> This point is exactly why emulators in general, and most specifically original NES emulators, are so damn popular to this day. I have NES, SNES, Sega Master System/Game Gear/Genesis, Game Boy Color/Advance, and PS1 (yes, PS1 o.o) emulators for my Android phone! xD

Not a big deal. Why people want to add these old emulator consoles to their newest system is beyond belief. A modded xbox original did just fine. And a Computer can do this task just fine. Placing it on a PS3 isn't going to improve graphics or gameplay. Waste of time.

Besides, what a hassle it would be to dig out an old system to play some emulators when you can play it on your already-configured and set up system.

And kids, especially, may not have access to a more general computing device. Dad may not LET the kids install emulators on the PC, ya know? And many people simply have only the one console, as well.

Additionally, as noted above, both sound and graphics can be greatly enhanced when running older games on newer systems...
