Samsung tips that Apple is creating iPad Mini?

According to the Korea Times, Samsung has confirmed that the oft-rumored "iPad Mini" is in fact coming later this year.

The tablet will be 7.85-inches and the official allegedly said that Apple will buy $11 billion worth of components for their range of devices this year. The current contract is for $9.7 billion worth of hardware, but Apple will need more display panels, flash storage and chips.

Last year, Apple purchased about $8 billion in parts from Samsung, making it the largest single customer of the manufacturer.

By creating a smaller form factor iPad, Apple will directly compete with Amazon, which has sold over 5 million Kindle Fire tablets since launch in November, taking a strong majority share at that size.

The smaller iPad will sell at $249 or $299, making it more expensive than the Kindle Fire, but certainly within striking distance given Apple's brand power.

So then I take it Apple will then claim they invented the e-book reader too then, like they did with Laptops, MP3 players, Tablets and Cell Phones. (rolls eyes)

I don't have a lot of faith in these rumors, to me it just seems like a bad idea, too bad for a company like apple to consider it. An E-reader is expected to just be used to read books really, maybe a few other things, but the Ipad is a tablet computer has more power behind it, much more than an Ebook reader. With Apples previous products I don't feel that their particular brand of products would be suitable for an Ebook reader. Apples version would be more expensive and have more features but when looking for a piece of technology specifically designed for Ebook reading, you look at minimum price, battery life and screen display, something that the Amazon kindle has completely sorted. I just think that the market for a mini Ipad just really isn't there and Apple should know this.

This one little discretion I could see them dispelling quite easily. Not to mention the fact that Apple refuses to see the HUGE contradiction of their biggest competitor also being their biggest supplier of components; yet they constantly want to punch them in the nose.

As far as with the rest of my anti Apple sentiments... It'll probably do half of what the Fire or Nook does for the quoted price points. It has too. That has been the commonality in all of Apple's products since day one & we all know it.

Seeing as their spending a ton of cash to even get tooled up for production, the Fire 2 will be out for Xmas & I assume the new Nook the same; both touting pretty considerable tech specs for what they are I simply don't see Apple building anything comparable as a freshman offering to match the playing field, swaying people from a $50 to $75 purchase.
