Facebook makes Facebook email the default for all users
Starting this week, Facebook has changed everyone's default email address to their Facebook one.

The social networking giant unveiled the email service in 2010, but it appears to be DOA, with hardly anyone using it.

Using your @facebook.com email address allows you to send emails as you normally would through traditional email services, except you have to be logged into Facebook.

For now, on your profile page, Facebook has made the @Facebook.com address your default contact address.

If you changed your Facebook URL, that is your email address, if you haven't, then Facebook will just assign you some random numbers, making for an easy to forget email.

I don't broadcast my personal information so it doesn't pertain to me. I still don't have the timeline BS like they said everyone would have whether they wanted it or not.

Anyone out there with an ounce of intelligence that uses facebook should not be forced into using this garbage. It will fall apart soon if people refuse to use it. It's bad enough with employers demanding new employees release their facebook account details to them but tell facebook where to go on this one - another control mechanism for direct advertising to force everyone to be easily tracked and marketed for spam. What will facemuck come up with next I wonder.

So, what happens if someone forgets their password and needs it emailed to them? Will it still go to the default email address? Not that it matters much to me...I closed my account long ago, and after months of BS, it was actually closed.

I guess it'll be a cold day in hell for me to get into Facebook then because if they start randomly issuing numbers to my log on I'm screwed. I don't go onto that thing with enough frequency to do anything. Especially to start changing everything I do to @FB.com, screw that.

@stardata "Anyone out there with an ounce of intelligence that uses facebook " that would be oxymoron !

@killerbug "So, what happens if someone forgets their password and needs it emailed to them? Will it still go to the default email address? Not that it matters much to me...I closed my account long ago, and after months of BS, it was actually closed. "

They will want to know your mobile phone number, a la gmail !

From what I understand they are not doing too well on the Wall Street. BTW I don't Wall Street performance as it does not concern me. Apparently they think the slide is not fast enough and want to facilitate it !

Who cares? If I never check it or use it (which I won't) does it matter that Facebook or anyone else SPAMs it? Fill it up with viral attachments, I don't care.
