Report: Wii U to launch at $299
According to a new report, the Nintendo Wii U console will cost just $299 when it launches in time for the holidays this year.

The report, via a source who heard the rumor through "certain channels," has not been confirmed by Nintendo or anyone else.

Another report, citing a "senior publishing source," says the console will ship at under £250, which would be the equivalent of $400 USD. The UK always gets higher prices for electronics, however.

Earlier in the year, the credible Japanese business paper Nikkei claimed the console would sell for 30,000 yen in Japan, about $375 USD.

I've been saying $399.99 ever since I tried it out at E3 and I'm sticking to it. The share holders meeting is in September. Exact price, specs and release dates will finally be known in a little over a month.

I thought they said they were going to try to make it competitively priced? $300 is higher than the PS3, and the WiiU specs are looking much lower than the PS4...so what is it competing with?

But you have to think the ps4 might debut in 2014 if sony even has the finances AND the loyal fan base who wants to pay for their next gen console after the disaster of nudering the ps3. Especially now, when microsoft is pushing for the windows 8 ecosystem the xbox might look better on paper.

Lastly, nintendo can price it at 300 or 400, it'll outsell the other consoles because of loyal nintendo fans for mario, zelda, and metroid.

I wouldn't bank on Sony pumping out another console with the most powerful specs they can cram in there. If you don't already know, Sony is seriously hurting financially, they can't afford another $600 console. Anything you've heard about the PS4 is a rumor, Sony hasn't said a thing about it. If anything, its the Xbox that's going to have the most power under its hood. Besides, if its specs you want, game on a PC. They obliterate consoles in the power department and will continue to do so even after the next ones come out.
    From an unbiased Nintendo fan.

They also might not be including the tablet controller...or have a pkg with it and a cheaper base unit w/o it.

you are talking rubbish they just bought gaikai for 380mill you really think a year of bad numbers overtakes years of great numbers? the playstation division is in profit it was the TV division & PSN Hack that hurt Sony along with that earthquake. the PS3 is about to over take the 360 for world numbers & the 360 had a year headstart lets not mention how many of the 360s were for the broken ones RROD. hate the way some people say stuff that is just plain lies.

@Arriant why are you making stuff up they have already said they will not be a year behind this time the nexbox is no more confirmed than the PS4 but we all no there both coming.

Ya know I gotta say I wish I had never bought the Wii. Didn't like the interface from the begining. Gotta say I have less than no interest in anything further from them. May see what Sony or Microsoft come up with...We'll see.

    Just my $0.02,

Ive seen much more broken Xbox consoles then PS. So heads up. If your going to get the X then plan on buying more then one. I was one of 4 that bought a PS in my family and every single X has broke. One lasted just over a month. Not trying to bash but a 100% failure rate is huge IMO. My brother took the 5 week old X and bought a PS. Both of out PS' are going strong after a few years. My cousin however is on his 3rd X.

As far as the W. I see them and run. That was a fad. Something new but always seemed to miss the mark no matter how much I tried. Anything they do to it should be an improvement though.

    Hey take it easy
