Windows 8 goes RTM

Windows 8 goes RTM
Microsoft has confirmed that Windows 8 has been released to manufacturing.

The move means the development and testing of the software's code has been completed.

Furthermore, RTM means the final product should be all set for its October 26th release date for consumers.

Microsoft noted that members of the Microsoft Partner Network (MPN) and IT pros with TechNet subscriptions will get the OS on August 16th. Additionally, OEMs like Acer, Asus, Dell, Lenovo and Toshiba now have the OS.

Upgraders can get Windows 8 Pro for $39.99 and anyone who purchases a new Windows 7 PC between June and next January will get the OS for $15.

Wow RTM already, see how long it take the guys to activate this, but also see the demand from Pirate sites. I just think its Windows 7 with a new UI for tablets, so should be called Windows 7.5. Shame, also when i ran it some apps would not install as they could not identify the O/S so that should be interesting

XP works BETTER than Vista or W7 in many ways. Yeah old but good.

Has anyone tried the search feature yet? Can it find anything? Does it waste system resources even when not searching? How about the arm version...does ie work with crummy old activex sites like the fda?

I think many would agree every other operating system released by m1crosoft sucks, nothing has changed there.

Windows 7 is what Vista should have been, and chances are Windows 9 (or 10) will be what 8 should be.

XP is still good to use if you don't have the computer power to use Windows 7, but otherwise by now you should upgrade.

Must say on one of my pc ubuntu 12.10 runs sweet. I will buy windows 8 when it first comes out only because it will be cheaper then waiting for later then I can put it away. For all you xp users it's like saying windows 98 is better then xp hahahaha. I agree vista was a flop but if you have it and with sp2 it does the job . Must say guys if you dont want to spend the money then ubunut is one of the best out there and I can see it being better then windows when it gets to version 14

Windows 7 with Areo is crap. Shut off the Areo and you have Windows 8 without the ugly interface. Windows 7 without Areo is very very good.

Well...I don't use XP anymore even though it was rock solid, but I will say that the file search functions blow away Vista and Windows 7. In Vista or Windows 7, try searching files for a specific string of text and prepare for at least a couple of hours of reading arcane threads on the Internet and then giving up in frustration. It will work if the files end with .TXT, but if the files don't (even if they are just text files)...Vista and Windows 7 can't find anything.

Ya I use AVA find pro with crack since they seem to not be able to sell it anymore, whish it had more features but its a better search tool than the windose 7 search.

I bet they made bing desktop more functional just to sell the bing name >>

I recently installed Win8 and I'm now using it fulltime until the official release in Oct. I plan on buying Win 8 because I haven't encountered any issues and I'm very happy using it. Win 7 is just as good but the UI on Win8 isn't as bad as many of you are saying.
I am a wedding videographer and all my video editing and dvd/bluray authoring apps are running great.
My 6core AMD cpu and 128SSD love Win8. I recommend it.

They have a version for paid customers (Pro v1.5.2) from 2011. It includes Windows 7 support and possibly works better on Windows 8.
