PC giant Lenovo starts manufacturing in U.S.
Chinese PC giant Lenovo has opened a manufacturing plant in the U.S.

Lenovo, which is now the top manufacturer of PCs in the world, beating out HP, will beat Apple to the punch with American labor.

Apple recently announced it would build upcoming Mac Pros in the U.S.

Rival Google is also building the new Motorola X phone in the U.S., allowing for quicker delivery of customized shells and colors.

    You mean assembly plant.

But it's good news for my American cousins... and good politics too maybe.

I also like Lenovo laptops... not bad imo.

Good politics, and good business. Tax laws are not very ridged when it comes time to attract a company to an area; the plant generally ends up being free after the tax breaks, with millions left over. On top of that, they can bounce the sales around to different countries easier if they start and end in the same country.

I'd like to drive one of them.

My brother converted a car to electric... it's weird to drive. The power steering pump is noisy at the lights!

Everything else being equal, only company to compare with so far as labor is concerned is Dell. It certainly is a whole lot easier to minimize the transportation costs by minimizing the handling of the final completely built box.

I have personally worked with precoated sheet metal that does not require any further cleaning up after forming. If they resort to that even building cabinets by simply transporting fully formed sheets requiring only bending could cut costs further !
