BlackBerry shows off Q10 with Porsche Design

Dead smartphone maker BlackBerry has announced a new modified version of the Q10, sporting a "Porsche Design."

The P'9983 modifies some features of the 720x720 3.1-inch touchscreen device, including its full physical keyboard, which now has glass keys.

Under the hood the device sports the same Dual Core 1.5 GHz Qualcomm MSM8960 processor and same RAM, but internal storage has been boosted to 64GB.

There is little else to differentiate the phone from the normal Q10, although BlackBerry did add the following: "Be instantly recognizable amongst Porsche Design users. The Porsche Design P'9983 smartphone from BlackBerry provides an exclusive Porsche Design PIN ID group � 2AAXXXXX, which sets you apart and makes you instantly recognizable among other Porsche Design users."

BlackBerry did not announce price but it is expected to command a premium.

This will be the nail in Blackberry's coffin considering the royalties they are likely paying out to Porsche and an anticipated ROI that doesn't cover the costs of manufacturing the phone.

Blackberry shouldn't die, and no I don't believe their phones are good. I just look at it this way. For corporations and government, if you want your employees to slack off, buy a Crapple or Droid. If you want them to work, use a Blackberry. Let them buy their own personal phone if they want other devices. That should be what Blackberry focuses on, smart phones for smart businesses; screw mobile devices for consumers as they clearly won't ever get a slice of the pay big enough to make profit.

As for saying BB is "smartphones for business".......that's nonsense. I'm a network engineer and I see ALL THE PROBLEMS in and out so I know what I'm talking about........you don't!

And.......moreover.......WHAT DO YOU THINK will be a practical difference regarding employees slacking off using an Android/Apple vs. Blackberry. BB can't track usage based on LOCATION, can't "make" your employees work, Can monitor employee whereabouts.......so again.......PIPE DOWN!!!!!!!!!!

IN NO WAY does the average corporate network monitor or distinguish BB users' productivity vs other "OWA" accessible device!!

First: If you are going to be so offended by what people say on board, than how about you not respond at all. Nobody likes a "know it all douche".

Secondly: It doesn't matter what you do for a living, it doesn't negate the fact that you don't have your position for every corporation out there and you clearly ignore the fact that there have been many numerous reports just in Government bodies alone where people goof off with their work devices, misplace them or have them hacked due to incompetence or perhaps lack of budget to hire someone of your specific know how to handle security properly.

Also add there are numerous Small to Medium businesses that either don't know where to find Network and Security Admins at a relatively affordable cost for their needs, or simply don't realize that there is a possibility of having a secure network over encrypted Droid and Apple devices; hence they go with Blackberry for the one-stop easiest solution as why not? Who's going to waist time hacking Blackberry given the fact they are the bottom of the barrel when it comes to mobile devices.

I also can't count how many businesses alone supply their employees with Apple or Droid devices where I actually seen such employees tell me personally it's their work phone and they use it as personal all the time; when asked about encryption they stare at me with a blank expression on their face, leading to believe their data is not secure.

Third: In no way was my comment directed at you personally anyhow, so taking my comment as a personal attack and telling me to pipe down and that I speak nonsense is completely utterly a waist of space.

Forth: You don't dictate what anyone may or may not write so long as we are respectful to other members, unlike you.

Last: "You are incompetent and I won't dignify your response" that is where your sentence should have ended. It's people like you that don't even deserve the space it takes on our planet to share the same breathe. Rather than properly educate, you attack what you deem is ignorance and stupidity rather than question that possibility that maybe some people out there don't know everything and wish to learn more. To you I say, just f-off and die already, unless you got something productive to add you snobbish lunatic.

PS. I can respect that you are network engineer and that you know how to secure various devices and know which devices are easily accessible through various back door methods. What I don't respect, is how you word your comments to whom you deem is the simple man in whom has no right to discuss what you feel is your superior subject of knowledge. You may know your field of business and whom you work for; but with your attitude, I would honestly be surprised if you kept employment for very long and my point still stands; you don't know every company needs, or able to properly assess those needs, and even if you could for every form of business, government and so forth; you wouldn't be able to meet all those needs at a reasonable cost. So yes... Blackberry is indeed an alternative to those too lazy to seek expert advice from yours truly, or otherwise; that said, if you gave the attitude to those seeking advice, you'd likely be sent out to the curb and your competition gets your job instead.

I can see why people still like them.

I can also see the sense in Mysttic's arguments, they seem to be what the company's thinking. Business and security appeal. Whether they pan out for BB we shall see.

Another scenario may be familiarity. As Molsen said, BB has been around for a very long time, they pioneered the smartphone age while Android spent years perfecting it and Apple appealed to iFanatics. BB was left shadowing in the dust when they stopped innovating their devices and apps. Even so, they always had a dedicated fan base both in home consumers and Enterprise.

Last some companies may just fear change, so continue to commit with familiarity since it still suits their needs. Honestly I wish I had a better answer for it; but the fact remains the last few months BB stock has been on a small rise, which good for them. Honestly why should anyone care if they remain in business or not; it's not like it's affecting sales from the competition nor is it declining innovation.

People more about what a phone can do, ram, memory, speed, impress others, etc. will go with Samsung, just for the heck of it.

People in small & medium &/or big business will go with BB in special if their business is located out side of U.S. 'cos BB is well stablished in those countries.
