1 million people now use Facebook through Tor
Facebook has announced today that over 1 million people now access the social media site through Tor for "a variety of reasons related to privacy, security and safety."

Reads the company's post:

As we've written previously it's important to us to provide methods for people to use our services securely – particularly if they lack reliable methods to do so.

This is why in the last two years we built the Facebook onion site and onion-mobile site, helped standardize the ".onion" domain name, and implemented Tor connectivity for our Android mobile app by enabling connections through Orbot.

Over this period the number of people who access Facebook over Tor has increased. In June 2015, over a typical 30 day period, about 525,000 people would access Facebook over Tor e.g.: by using Tor Browser to access www.facebook.com or the Facebook Onion site, or by using Orbot on Android. This number has grown – roughly linearly – and this month, for the first time, we saw this "30 day" figure exceed 1 million people.

This growth is a reflection of the choices that people make to use Facebook over Tor, and the value that it provides them. We hope they will continue to provide feedback and help us keep improving.

Facebook was setup by the C.I.A. as a data mining project to collect as much information on as many people as they could.

So what's all this nonsense about privacy, security and safety.

Oh man......sikorus must have gotten banned as you're a "newbie" again. Welcome to MY WORLD. Though I haven't gotten banned in years because I decided to play nice.

As for your comment about the C.I.A. setting up Facebook. Man that's a real nasty conspiracy theory....and a ridiculous one at that.

Take no offense here but I imagine if you believe this, then you probably are on board with the theory that the government was tangibly responsible for the 9/11 attacks. Please oh please don't say that.

As for the article, I'm truly befuddled that FB users are using TOR to encrypt the very data they are publicly displaying on FB. That's like ordering a diet coke and rum to save calories.

Unfortunately, there is NO diplomatic way to tell someone their thought pattern is ridiculous. Face it...you brought it on by claiming the C.I.A. started FB.

Sooooo...........are you a believer of 9/11 conspiracy? I'm betting on YES!

    L'ingMAO!

The only time I combine Tor with FB is if Twitter link me to FB to watch a pay per view stream, with acceptable 3 to 5 mins. delaye (4-free).

Why trust "FB Onion" when we can use the real Tor ?!
    Just saying.
