RIM will need to spend $1 billion to launch BB10
RIM, struggling to survive in the ever-evolving mobile market, will need to spend a significant sum to make sure their upcoming BlackBerry 10 even makes it into consumer's hands.

The company currently has $2.25 billion in cash, but may need to spend up to $1 billion of that cash to ensure the launch of the operating system, say certain analysts.

Barclays had a brighter outlook, claiming the cash "burn" will only be $677 million, over the next three quarters.

Other analysts believe the company will need to spend up to $400 million for research and development and another $600 million in sales.

The operating system is expected to flop, after over a year of delays.

I have been rooting for RIM for the last 2 years, hoping that RIM will come back strong and relevant with state-of-the-art technology and security. Time again, RIM delivered nothing but emptied promises and disappointing and lame product deliverables, like the Playbook for example. Delays after delays, Blackberry phones now are the butt-joke of smart phones at my work place for reason that they are so obsolete and difficult for non-techies to use. Almost 100% of the users do not want or wish for a Blackberry phones as replacement, and BB10 seems more like vaporware than a solid product in development. Having a delusional Thorsten Heins taking RIM at the helm does not help at all. Heins is in a self-denial state, refusing to accept that RIM’s BES security stronghold is crumbling all around him. A product delay of more than a year is example of poor execution and management, and above all, no talent for innovation – regardless this is a blame for RIM’s engineers or its management board.

I used to hate iPhones, and dreaded that those Apple-made phones will take over our enterprise. We IT guys always tried to convince our directors that Blackberry is top in security, and no company out there that matches that. Well, my company now has switched over to ZenPrise, and offer management tools and security that do in fact rival RIM’s. We used to manage 800+ Blackberry devices just slightly over 18 months ago. Now, we barely have about 30 Blackberry fanatics left on our phone support list. By September of this year, our company will pull the plug on all our Blackberry Enterprise Servers, and go along with Zenprise’s MDM. We now have less than 5% users still holding on to Blackberry phones - a sad statistic that somehow reflects the true marketing trend out in the mobile smartphone world. RIM is bested by iOS and Android, and soon MDM software as well. The editorial views out there may be correct, RIM should be split, and sold in parts, if there is a hope for BB 10 to become a reality. RIM won’t bankrupt tomorrow, but it has become irrelevant at my work place. Heins and his board of management are simply not trustworthy.

you said 5% of the users have blackberry. so as per your info, your company will have 600 users in total. (because 5% bb users=30 so the total numbers =600) but u also said at some point 800+ users had bb.) your math is not adding up.........you are obviously trolling.. get a life bro.
