Apple buying back iPhones before new phone launch

Apple buying back iPhones before new phone launch
Apple has started a new Reuse and Recycle program, allowing Apple fans to trade in their existing iPhones for cash.

All iPhones are eligible (original, 3G, 3GS, 4, or 4S) with a max rebate of $345 if you trade in a 64GB iPhone 4S in like new condition.

You go through a quick online wizard, inputting your model and then the wizard will ask about the condition of the device. Apple will then reveal the trade-in price dependent on the variables.

On the low-end of the scale are obviously the original model iPhones, and even a cracked scree iPhone 4 will get you back $50.

You must include a power cable in the package you send back to Apple and the company will return you a gift card to be redeemed on a new iPhone.

Apple is expected to launch the new iPhone on September 12th and ship it on the 21st.

Smart, considering the iPhone 3 = the iPhone 4S.

I'm sure they will find lots of people dumb enough to spend $200 on refurbished 1st-gen iPhones; after all, it is just the logo that matters with Apple fans, not the capabilities.

I couldn't agree more. Apple products are over priced. Their hardware specs are at best, above average. Not bad until you throw in the price: ridiculous. Nothing but a fad, like throw-back jerseys and bell bottoms.

Why the hell do they need for you to throw in the power cable? If they're recycling the damn thing it isn't really necessary, so why bugger the deal if the cable isn't there?

Sounds like Apple is misrepresenting their intentions yet again.

    Oh... long live bell bottoms...

Probably because it is proprietary, overpriced, and made poorly enough that many users replaced it with a Chinese knock-off long ago, so they will have to buy a new one to take advantage of the deal. I don't think anyone actually believes that they are going to "recycle" these things...companies have misused that word so much that it can mean the same as "remanufacture" or "reuse" or "sell to some other sucker".

The low life they just want to buy it back and ship it to another continent where they could make a profit and to make sure is not available to USA consumers since the Next God Forsaken shitty device is coming out.

    @ukt

Because other than imessage, what cool feature are you paying the extra money for..

Maybe its the built in wifi teathering, the ability to install cheap high capacity sd cards, replace the battery with a long life one and host usb devices (namely usb sticks and external usb hard disk drives) oh wait thats just the compertition.

Might be the badge...! Just saying, i cant see any other reason.

You can smash the screen and use it to cut your wrists after you realize how much money you wasted on an iPhone...can't do that with Gorilla Glass.

Ok, fellas i get it. I apologize about the bell bottoms and throw back jerseys. I think I have a better comparison that we all can relate to, ( unless you are under 25) Apple products are like skinny jeans, yes its hot right now, but we all now it wont last.

Man, what a fashionista! Skinny jeans have been around forever...they just were not called skinny jeans until recently. How about Apple products are like pet rocks...trendy but useless...and no one ever looked sexy because of a pet rock.

Good catch...I hadn't actually read the article, but it is pretty dark...here is the first paragraph:

Quote:Turn that iPhone, iPad, or computer — Mac or PC — you’re not using anymore into something brand new. Send it to us and we’ll determine if it qualifies for reuse. If it does, that means your device has monetary value that we’ll apply to an Apple Gift Card, which you can use for purchases at any Apple Retail Store or the Apple Online Store. If your iPhone, iPad, Mac, or PC doesn’t qualify for reuse, we’ll recycle it responsibly at no cost to you. So, not only do you get nothing but a gift card (and we know from the last few releases that they don't even accept their own gift cards for popular products), but the device might not even "qualify for reuse"...then they "recycle" it for you by selling it to someone else.

The really doublespeek is this line..."we’ll determine if it qualifies for reuse. If it does, that means your device has monetary value"...what doesn't have monetary value??? Cow s**t has monetary value! You wouldn't believe the parts that get reused...they resell used 0805 capacitors for f**k sake!

...Need to calm down and remember it is Apple screwing their customers; nothing new or unusual. Ah, lovely android phone...ah, PC...ah, refrigerator with no red fruit missing bites...
