Invites sent for September 30th 'Windows 9' event
Following a month of rumors, Microsoft's Windows 9 tech preview event is finally official.

Invites have been sent for the Windows event on September 30th, in which top execs Joe Belfiore and Terry Myerson will lead a discussion that is focused "on enterprise and power users" of Windows.

The oft-rumored "Windows Technical Preview" will be made available to enterprise and developers after the event, with many of the operating system's features made available for testing. Virtual desktops, a return of the Start menu, the removal of the Charms bar and an updated Notification Center are key.

Not expected to be included is integrated Cortana support, the voice activated personal assistant found on new Windows Phone devices.

Windows 9 is expected to launch for consumers in March.

The Microsoft Yo-Yo effect continues, 98se (good), ME (horrible), XP (good), Vista (bad), 7 (good), 8 (horrible), 9 (maybe?).

Windows 7 still has 6 years left in it, or more, so if 9 is still Microsoft's way, like 8 was, then no big deal. It is also obvious that Microsoft's know better than us approach is poor at best and the only time they put out a decent OS is after they have tried to shove their BS down our throats, and only then when they have fail miserably do they listen to the true professionals, us the business consumers.

    You got to love it....

I tend to agree wholeheartedly. I'm just getting too old & contancerous about learning another operating system. Seems like every 2 - 2.5 years I have to pick up another OS... I'm starting to forget family events & names of old here.

    RESPONSE:
I almost completely agree, with the following exceptions ...
Windows 8 (betrayal of loyal Windows customers), Windows 9 ( "hope springs eternal" ) :-D
